"All those in favor of Chance, the current Snake King, raise your drinks," the person said again. This was accompanied with far more cries of support and Mykie breathed a sigh of relief.

"No!" Adam screamed over the loud cries. He turned and looked at the crowd that was turning against him. "I won't accept this!"

He lunged at Chance, knocking him to the ground. Mykie and Jezebeth both let out loud gasps as their fathers began to fight. It wasn't long before Chance pushed Adam off of him and they made it to their feet. Mykie spotted the gleam of light bouncing off the silver of the knife in Adam's hand and she moved forward, planning to scream and warn the only father figure she had left in her life.

She felt arms wrap around her waist, and she was pulled back against a strong, warm chest. She tried to fight and push the arms away, but his hold only tightened around her.

"No, Ki. You need to let them duel alone. It's the only way that it will stop this from happening again," Ryker whispered in her ear. He picked her up and pulled her backwards away from the scene and allowed her place in the crowd to fill in so she could no longer see what was going on. All she could hear was grunts and cries of pain.

Once they were far enough away, he put her down and let her turn around to face him, but didn't remove his hands from her waist.

"But Jezebeth...She shouldn't be alone right now," Mykie reasoned.

"Jezebeth can do what she wants and make her own choices. She could easily walk back to you," he stated, shutting her down. "I'm preventing you from getting hurt in the process. Adam will have no qualms hurting you instead of your father."

She nodded slowly. He was right; Adam wouldn't hesitate to come after her if he had the chance. She stared up into his crystal eyes that could see right through her and sighed. "How did you know what I was going to do?"

He smirked. "I know you, Mykie. I've watched you long enough to know what you'll do even beforeyouknow."

Mykie shivered. She didn't doubt that for a second.

He brushed a blood-covered piece of hair behind her ear. "You look beautiful like this, Ki."

He'd called her that twice now. "Why are you calling me that?"

He smiled at her sweetly. "Because no one else calls you that. I don't want you to think of anyone else when you're with me."

A surprise giggle escaped her lips, and she felt a little lighter. He made her feel special and like she was the only girl in the room.

She heard a blood-curdling scream from the crowd, and she whipped around. Just as she stepped forward, the crowd parted, and she saw Jezebeth on her knees. She looked in the direction that the girl was focused on.

Chance had Adam head pressed to the ground similar to Mykie's stance not more than an hour before. He looked around at the crowd, waiting for everyone to quiet.

"You know our laws. Adam could have continued to be one of us, if he had not attacked me. Now that he has, he has signed his death warrant. No one is allowed to deny what has been done tonight."

He grabbed Adam around the neck and pressed his gun against the base of his head. "Jezebeth should not be here for this," Chance said.

Mykie came over and grabbed her shoulder, pulling her back away from the scene.

"No, sheshouldsee this, Chance. See who's killing her father just like you’re the one that got Mykie's killed," Adam sneered.

Mykie was glad that Ryker followed her over to Jezebeth, as he shielded both her and Jezebeth from the gun shot that sprayed blood over the crowd. The crowd cheered for the bloodshed, not for the loss of a brother but for the leader who protected and showed them yet again why he should be feared.

She saw that some of the blood hit Ryker's back and a few splatters hit Jezebeth in the face. Jezebeth reached up and wiped a streak off of her face and stared at her pointer finger. It was part of her dad on her finger, and Mykie couldn't imagine what she was going through at the moment. She was luckily not at the scene when her father was killed, and as much as she would have loved to see her father one last time before his death, she'd never wish this on anyone.

Adam knew what he was doing, and he taunted his daughter with it in the end. It was cruel to Jezebeth, but these were the rules for treason. The Snake King had to uphold the tradition, no matter how heartbreaking it was to see someone so close to his daughter hurt.

"We should leave her alone," Ryker murmured.

"I can't leave her," Mykie argued. "Iwon'tleave her alone."

"She won't be alone, Princess. Your soldier’s here for her," he said softly as he gazed over her shoulder. Mykie turned around and found Dexter standing in the doorway to Pearl's. She assumed he was in shock, and she couldn't blame him. Mykie had never seen Jezebeth so emotionless. Even though her father was never a nice man, it was still her dad, and this had to tear her apart inside.

"Jezebeth," Mykie murmured, bending down so she could see Jezebeth's eyes. Gone was the thirst for revenge, but it was replaced with something else. Something heartbreaking and cruel for a girl usually so upbeat and happy. Usually, she'd try to find a positive in everything, even if something went wrong, but Mykie could see that she could barely utter a word. She was broken in a way no one would be able to repair easily for her.

When she looked into Jezebeth's usually bright eyes, she could see her reflection in them. The hurt, the desperation, the darkness. It was all the same things she saw when she looked in the mirror. She never wanted to see that in someone else's eyes. Especially her best friend's.

She wouldn't be the same from this point onward. She was in pieces that no one would be capable of completely putting back together, but she'd find a way to go on. She already had a support system around her that would stand by her.
