“You might be right. If he’s head of MKG, he might have access to things on the dark web we hadn’t considered. I need to meet with my team and debrief them on this new information. MKG is becoming slippery and more dangerous than we’d originally assessed.”

“Will there be a team sent to retrieve Kristina?” I asked.

“As soon as we have a lead. I’ll keep you apprised of it.”

“Thank you. She was a friend. How are Ash and Caleb doing?”

“They’re pretty shaken up. They’re both in the infirmary if you wanted to visit.”

Nodding, I gave him a grateful smile. “Thanks, I will.”

Ryker stood, looking at the four of us. “Training starts in an hour. Good luck. I’ll be in touch.”

“Wait,” Fin said as he made his way to the door. “Are we still having that meal together?”

Ryker’s face lit up, and he nodded. “If you’d like to. I’d like the chance to talk without all this subterfuge hanging over us.”

“I think that would be nice,” she said, looking at me.

“Okay, I’ll see you guys at dinner then.”

He gave a half-wave before he opened the door, the sound of it latching close the only thing we heard for a few minutes as we all sat with our thoughts.

“So, what does one wear to training?” Fin asked, looking at me.

It was such a Fin question that it had me erupting in laughter, lightening the mood.

“Whatever you want, sweetheart. But maybe leave the stilettos for later?”

She slapped my chest, but I saw some of the fear from the picture lingering, and I vowed to do my damnedest to erase that from her.

We all changed clothes and headed to the gym, and for once, I looked forward to whipping some new initiates into shape.

Staring around the room,I took in the other people present. It felt weird to call us initiates when I didn’t even know if I wanted to do it. The group was a mixture of females and males—the females were outnumbered by only a few—in their early-to-late twenties. It was a diverse set of people, and something about that made me feel hopeful that I could belong somewhere.

Some of the group chatted as they stretched, while others stayed to themselves, eyeing everyone from the mats. The three of us were in the back dressed in athletic gear, Cohen giving nothing away on what to expect. He was up at the front with some of the other Order members. It was easier to pick out the trainers as they were dressed in all black and had a look about them like they were about to make us hurt and enjoy every second of it.

I glanced over to Asa as he touched his toes. “What do you think?”

“Not sure yet. Physically, I think we’ll be okay. It’s just if we have to do other tasks. Outside of you, I’m not sure what skills we have,” he admitted, turning back to look at me sheepishly.

Leaning over, I kissed him, pushing some of his hair off his forehead. “Babe, you’re amazing at everything. Don’t underestimate yourself.” He smiled, lighting my insides up.

“Well, I know first aid,” Milo chimed in, making me chuckle.

“You know more as well.” I turned to him, kissing his cheek. “I’m not worried about us working as a group. I’m curious if we’ll have someone added and what this training entails since Co-bear wouldn’t tell us anything,” I huffed, crossing my arms as I stared at the man.

“Co-bear?” Asa laughed, slapping his leg. “Oh, I can’t wait to tease him about that.”

My cheeks flushed a little, but I shrugged. I wouldn’t take it back.

“Alright, trainees. It’s time to see what you’re all made of. Line up.”

Standing, I followed Asa with Milo behind me. I didn’t know if they did it on purpose, but they kept me in between them at all times. I liked it too much to say anything.
