I nod, turning to Cody and Hunter, both catching the same wave. “Wait,” I whisper.

“Wait for what?” she asks, gazing longingly at Hunter and her son.

“Hunter,” I reply.

She hugs me. “I promise, Sky. I promise,” she whispers, holding me in her arms.

And I know she will.

Hunter

We watch the sun set together. The bonfire warms us. “What did you talk about with Quinn?” I ask.

Sky smiles, watching people dance to a song by Post Malone.

“Shorty?”

She touches my face, her eyes meeting mine, her expression serene.

“You’re not going to tell me, are you?” I ask with a smirk.

She shakes her head, closing her eyes and leaning against my chest.

“Want to head home? We’ve been here the whole day. You’re probably tired,” I say.

She nods, not opening her eyes.

“Let me give Jay a heads up.” I move her gently to her chair, stand and walk over to Jay where he’s talking with my father.

“I’m going to take her home,” I tell Jay.

“Yeah, probably a good idea.”

“Thanks for coming, Dad.” I smile, shaking my father’s hand.

“Anytime, son. Would you like to have dinner…”

“Call nine-one-one!”

I spin around. Quinn crouches next to Sky who’s fallen on the ground. She pumps up and down on her chest, performing CPR. “Fuck, God, no!” I yell, running to Sky with Jay and my father in pursuit.

“Here you go, son,” my father says, handing me a coffee.

“Thanks, Dad,” I reply, sipping from the steaming cup.

“Any news?” he asks, taking a seat next to me.

Sliding my fingers through my hair, I glance around the hospital waiting area. Everyone I care about is here. Some are sleeping or talking quietly amongst each other. We have been waiting here for hours. Jay is with Sky right now.

Quinn kept giving her CPR. Luckily, Sky came to, thank God Quinn was there. She kept her stable and conscious until the ambulance arrived. The way she kept talking to me as the paramedics helped Sky kept me calm. Fuck, I don’t know what would have happened if Quinn hadn’t been there. According to the paramedics it is going to be touch and go.

“I don’t know what is going to happen. It’s all fucked,” I groan, rubbing both my hands over my face.

Dad squeezes my shoulder. “I know, son. I know.”

Jay walks through the sliding doors, and I glance up locking eyes with him.

“She wants to see you,” he whispers, holding in his tears. I hand my father my coffee, and follow Jay to her room.
