“I’m still so angry,” I confess, leaning my forehead against hers, brushing my lips over her skin.

Her voice is soft when she tells me, “Don’t be. I wouldn’t want to change a thing. Because it led to this moment. It led me to you.” She caresses my cheek. “You have given me the greatest gift anyone could ever receive in this life. You have given me unconditional love. Don’t close your heart because I’m gone,” she says, turning my chin to her. “Promise me you’ll never do that.”

“I c-can’t,” I stutter.

“Promise me, Hunter,” she says.

I close my eyes in pain. Opening them, she is still waiting for my answer.

“I promise.” My voice trembles.

Her fingers trace the line of my lips, as rays of sunlight hit her beautiful face.

I kiss her fingertips, wanting this moment to last forever, but I know it can’t. “I promise.”

I wrap my arms around her while her breathing slows. Closing my eyes, I brush my lips over her temple. “I love you, Shorty,” I whisper as she slowly drifts off while I hold her.

Burying my face in her neck, I feel her faint pulse against my lips when her heart takes its last beat. “Fuck forever, babe,” I whisper, gently turning her lifeless body, I caress her cheek, and softly kiss her lips. “Thank you for loving every broken part of me,” I say choking on my words. “I’ll miss you so damn much. I love you, Shorty,” I cry, rocking her in my arms. “Cross my heart.”
