“Don’t fuck with him, Cole,” the other man roars.

“Stay out of this, Neil,” Ryan yells at the guy.

Both Ryan and Hunter are bleeding when they are finally separated. I follow Hunter to his trailer, leaving Jay behind to smooth things over with Neil.

“Hunter, what was that all about?” I ask, laying my hand on his shoulder. My heart is racing in my chest, and I am having trouble filling my lungs with air. He shrugs my hand off, wiping the blood from his nose with his sleeve.

“Hunter?” I plead, trying to catch my breath with my hands on my knees.

People are staring at us; some riders shake their heads. Hunter stops, straightening his shoulders and balls his fists. Turning, he stomps toward me, stopping inches away from my face. I stand my ground as he stares into my eyes, swallowing hard when he opens and closes his fists, towering over me.

“Don’t, Sky. Not now,” he warns with a growl in his voice, those ocean eyes holding me captive.

I hold up my hands. “Don’t what?”

He takes another step, and I don’t move an inch. “You…don’t…know—shit!” He bellows, his nostrils flaring.

“Don’t know what?” I ask, my voice small.

He drops his chin, the warmth of his shallow breath tickling my parted lips. But his eyes are still hard. Slowly, his gaze moves to my mouth, his tongue darting out and touching his lip piercing. I anticipate the touch of his lips on my own. My stomach does a little back flip.

“Don’t look at me like this. I don’t fucking deserve it,” he warns, turning around.

I let the breath I was holding escape and watch him walk away from me as I whisper, “What look?”

During the drive home, Jay and Hunter don’t talk to each other while I sit in the back seat. Jay parks the truck behind the bus, Drew and Mac are already waiting for us. Without saying anything, Hunter jumps out.

“Hunter!” Jay orders.

Hunter shakes his head and heads into his apartment, slamming the door shut. Dad watches him go with a disappointed look on his face. He grabs the steering wheel hard until his knuckles turn white. “Damn that boy.”

“Do you want me to talk to him?” I ask, leaning forward in my seat.

He shakes his head. “Better if you didn’t,” he says, a warning in his voice.

“Come on,” I say, getting out of the truck. I don’t want to tell Jay that I might be a part of the problem.

He nods, throwing his baseball cap on the passenger seat. “Okay, but be careful. The kid has a freaking temper.”

“And you don’t, Dad?”

Passing Drew and Mac, I smile. They give me reassuring nods while they open the back of the trailer.

I knock on Hunter’s door. He doesn’t answer. After a couple of seconds, I knock again.

“Go the fuck away!” he yells. Something smashes against the wall. Taking a step back, I open and close my mouth, debating what to do. I have no idea how to calm him down. Should I leave him be or not?

“Come on,” Drew says, putting his hand on my shoulder, leading me away from the door. “He needs some alone time.”
