After taking a hot shower, I walk to the garage to lift some weights, passing the Tesla parked in front of Drew’s front door. All the while, I’m thinking about what Jay and Sky were talking about. You can’t hurt him like this. Did he mean she is going back to New York, back to NYU? Fuck, I have no idea.

“Hunter!” Drew calls out to me.

“What, man?”

“I’ve been calling your name for, like, five minutes. Where you at?”

I shake my head, dropping the weights. “Getting fucked,” I tell him gruffly as I pass him.

“Did you spend the night with her?” he asks.

I give him a sly smile while I crouch and lace up my shoes, then grab a towel to brush the sweat from my arms. “How did your date go, by the way?” I pause. “Timothy still here?”

His face turns a bright shade of red. “None of your damn business.”

I shake my head. “It is my business when the guy is a certified dealer. I’m not stupid. I know a major player when I meet one. We have a business to run and with the kids here…”

“Don’t you think I don’t know?” he asks.

“I do. Do you?” I turn the tables on him.

He grabs me by the arm, dragging me back into the garage.

“Don’t fuck with me, Drew!” I roar.

“Why not? When fucking shit up is your favorite pastime?” Drew gets right in my face. “Just because you screwed up doesn’t mean the rest of us will be traveling down your road any time soon.”

“And here were go again.”

He shakes his head. “No, I just don’t want to see you getting hurt, or hurt someone else.”

I start to laugh. “Good one, jackass. No need to confront me with my failures. I’ve not forgotten them.”

He nods. “What is going on, man? Are you…?” he says, and his face screws up.

“Using, no I’m clean, Drew,” I say, but he has a point.

“Are you really? You know you can’t ride with that shit in your blood.”

“Fuck no. I’m…I don’t know,” I reply, staring at the bikes we’ve been working on for the last couple weeks with Mac. “I don’t want to blow it this time with her, like I always do.” I wince, scraping my tongue piercing across my teeth.

“I get it dude.”

I punch him playfully in the shoulder. “So, you and Timothy?” I ask, changing the subject.

“I know what you’re trying to do, motherfucker.” Drew grins.

I give him a pat on his stomach. “Warn me next time when you take him back here. Don’t want to walk in on your skinny ass again.”

He slams me in the arm with his fist. “Shut up.” He pauses. “We’re heading to a party at the beach tonight. Wanna come? You look like you could blow off some steam.”

I glance back up to the house. “Nah.”

The only steam I wanna blow off is with the woman hiding inside those walls.

I wink at Drew when he looks at me, and we both walk to the track, ready to start with the kids’ class.

I didn’t talk to Sky after I overheard her conversation with Jay. During dinner, she acts like nothing has happened between us. I am this close to popping a vein in my neck.
