“You too,” Jesse says.
Cill puts an arm around Shane’s shoulders and walks away with him, giving us a little space.
“So…” I smile.
“So, that was it, I guess, right?” Jesse replies, staring into my eyes, and my smile falls.
“Thank you for the last couple of days,” I say, suddenly shy.
“Don’t mention it, Ace, I had fun,” he tells me, picking up his board and holding it under his arm.
“I guess I’ll see you around, then,” I begin, trying to come up with a better parting line.
“What about the upcoming days… are you chickening out?” he grunts.
I stare at my boots, not knowing what to say.
“Fuck almighty,” he says, letting out a sharp breath.
I look up at him. “What?”
“Ask me to stay, babe,” he drawls.
“What?” I ask, locking eyes with him.
“Fuck, I’ll do it,” he bristles, placing his board vertical in the snow. “Take a ride with me?”
“Take a ride with you where?”
“I’m not done with you yet. You promised me three more days,” he says without a hint of a doubt.
I turn to look at Shane and Cillian waiting for me a couple of feet away.
“I need to get away from the slope for a couple of hours before I hit some pipes up on the mountain to clear my head. Would you like to come with me?”
“Where to?” I murmur.
“Why is it always a freaking question with you?” he growls, but his tone is playful.
“Really? You think insulting me is the ticket to get me to go with you?”
He rolls his eyes. “I know you want to, so don’t act like you don’t,” he says, sounding confident.
I catch his stare. “Fuck, okay, you win, snowboard guy.”
“Good, get used to it, Ace of Spades,” he says, mischief dancing in his eyes. He storms past me toward Cillian and Shane.
“What are you doing, Jesse?” I ask, stumbling after him while he drags me by my hand through the snow.
“She’s coming with me,” Jesse says to Shane and Cillian, taking hold of my board. Shane’s mouth falls open. Cillian grins, winking at me, while the man leads me to the parking lot. Yep, the asshole is definitely trouble.
