“Want another drink? Ace, was it?” Nick asks me.

“No, thank you, I’m good.”

He flashes me a beautiful smile and turns around, walking back to the party.

“Go after him,” I tell Shane.

“You should too, hon. Try to give Jesse another chance, like you did with me.” He grins, brushing a stray lock behind my ear, then kisses my forehead. “He is going to regret letting you go.”

“Maybe.” I shrug, turning my gaze back to the mountains. He reaches out and takes me into his arms, holding me for a while. “Thank you, Shane,” I whisper, looking up into his eyes.

“Anytime, babe,” he says, and we smile at each other, then an all too familiar voice growls, “Get the fuck away from her, if you want to keep breathing.”
