"Is that so?" he laughs. "Maybe I won't let either one of you escape. Maybe I can overpower you both and take you back to where you belong. An in the underground... well, you'll be seen as objects. That's all you are, after all, isn't it, sweetheart?" You're just an object, a sex toy for men to do with as they please."

I ponder my choices in the split second before I have to make my decision. I could leave right now. Get the hell out of here and run as fast as I can before I get hurt even more. But that means leaving Ivette behind. And as I look into her deep sorrowful eyes, I know that's not something I can do.

"Ivette, run!" I scream at the top of my lungs as I thrust my body at the unknown man who has just entered the room.

Yvette clutches the suitcase close to her heart and makes a run for it. I manage to drag the man away from the door, crashing his body on the ground. I don't think he's armed but my arms and hands try to prevent him from moving, pinning him down and searching his body for a concealed weapon.

"Run," I scream at Ivette again, but she doesn't seem to take any notice. She's standing frozen to the spot, unable to move,

"Ivette, for your kids..." I remind her in a low voice. "Run away for your kids. You have to be reunited with them. It's more important than my freedom."

I know it's probably the last time we'll see each other ever again. Yvette sighs, eyes growing understanding, and I realize she's going to take the chance. She's going to run off and leave me here to the mercy of this man, and whoever else is in charge here. Leave me to possibly be returned to Xavier, or be faced with an even worse fate.

"Go," I scream again, my voice tinged with desperation. Yvette manages to get to the door and that's the last I see of her, the white of her skirt swishing behind in the doorway as she swoops down the stairs.

The man is overpowering me now, grunting and cursing as he gets on top of me and pins my hands above my head. His grip on my wrists is tight and I know he's bruising me, but there's nothing I can do about it. There is no way for me to get out of this. Now I'm at his mercy.

"Thought you could run away from me, didn't you, pretty little thing?" he asks me with the evil smirk. "There is nowhere else left for you to run. We were going to hunt you down anyway."

With that, he pulls a hood over my head, darkening my vision. I can't see out of the thick fabric that covers my face, and my heart pounds with fear as the man drags me to my feet.

Something hard, steel maybe, wraps around my wrists and locks me into an unforgiving embrace I can't escape from. My arms are now folded behind my back, my limp arm hanging uselessly.

There's nowhere for me to run, the man is right. I'm caged, broken just as I was before I escaped Xavier's devious clutches. And the worst part is, I don't know what's worse, being returned to my cruel captor, or being forced to become a sex toy for the rich men who just attacked us and killed so many women and children. I can't even count all the dead bodies.

"Come on, start walking," the man grits out at me before kicking me in the knees, and forcing me to keep moving forward. I keep stumbling over stuff on the floor. I'd rather not know if it's a dead bodies.

I follow him, soon enough feeling the fresh air outside on my cold skin. I'm terrified. Droplets of sweat run down my forehead, inching into my clothes and beading on my exposed skin. I can feel myself getting more and more scared. As I'm forced to kneel on the ground, on the hard grass outside that's been burned to a crisp due to the heat, I remember the time Ivette and I spent here underneath the calming moonlight. How lovely it was to finally meet a friend, someone who had no intention of using me... even though she did in the end. And I gave my life in exchange for hers. Maybe it was always meant to end this way. With Ivette escaping and going back home to her family, and with me falling prey to the worst men possible.

Maybe this was my purpose all along.

The hood is ripped away from me, and I come face to face with six different men. All of them are large, bulky and muscular. I can tell there is no way for me to overpower them all, with the handcuffs especially. And my broken hand is still just as useless. Not that anyone's made a comment about it or asked me if I need anything. It feels worse and worse, swelling and bruising painfully while caught into the steely grip of the handcuffs that scratch my skin and make the pain even worse.

One of the men kicks me in the stomach, making me double over on the lawn.

"You thought you could run away didn't you?" someone asks. I recognize him as the one who'd cornered us in Ivette's bedroom. "You thought you could get away. Run away from all of this. Start a new life, far away from the men who have been hunting your whole life. I'm here to tell you, you're wrong, sweetheart. You're going to fall prey to the worst of the worst now. You thought you could be safe here, but you thought wrong. We've had our eyes on this place for a while. We know exactly what goes on in here. What kind of women come here. Did you know this home is famous for housing women that escaped from the cartel?"

I don't respond and this doesn't seem to please him. He kicks me again, making me grunt as I hit the ground.

"We were always going to attack, but once we found out Xavier Gunn's sweet little bride was in here with the rest of those whores, we knew we couldn't wait any longer. Now the question is, should we give you back to him? Or should we sell you to the highest bidder? Maybe myself? I wouldn't have to pay a cent. It would be so easy... I could overpower you and be inside you within seconds. Maybe that's what you really want. Maybe you didn't want to run away at all? Is that it, sweetheart?"

My gaze darkens and I stare at him with undiluted hatred.

"I'm never going to stop running," I inform him coolly. "I have no intention of being your toy."

He laughs merrily as if I've just told a joke. "I don't think that's up to you, sweetheart. From now on, you're at the mercy of me and my co-workers here. And we're the ones who are going to decide what happens to you. Every brutal little detail of your life is up to us now. And we're going to use our imaginations to make it the worst time you've ever had on this earth. We're going to torture you, rape you, and make you into an obedient little pet for all of us. You're never going to run away from us now. You thought you could outrun the cartel... you must be more naive than I thought. There is no outrunning me, there is no escaping the law that rules the streets."

He keeps talking as the rest of the men approach the building which is now in shambles. The windows are broken, and there's blood on the doorstep. Everyone is dead now.

I watch as the men begin pouring gasoline all over the home. My home. A shelter for women who've been hurt is now going to burn to the ground. The sight is almost too much for me to bear, and I close my eyes, forcing myself to ignore the sounds of gasoline pouring.

But this doesn't seem to please the man, and he raises my head, gently tipping my chin back with his fingers.

"You don't want to look, sweetheart?" he asks and I wordlessly shake my head. Perhaps this will afford me a small mercy from this cruel man. Perhaps I won't be forced to watch my home for the last few months burn down in flames.

But I should know from his evil grin that he has no intention of going easy on me.

"I want you to watch," he smirks. "I want you to watch every second of this. So you know what's going to happen to everything you hold dear in your heart unless you cooperate."
