I looked up at him, my mouth falling open.

“Surely you didn’t think we’d touch you if we weren’t?” Remiel asked.

“Or that we didn’t think—hope that you felt something in return?” Eleth added.

“I didn’t dare hope,” I confessed. “But I...” As I looked at each of them, the peace I had felt moments ago quickly faded away and was replaced by panic.

“But you aren’t interested?” Jophiel guessed, his face falling.

“No, I mean, yes! Of course, I wouldn’t have... It’s just... I can’t choose,” I told them, blushing fiercely again.

Remiel cocked his head to one side. “You like all of us?”

I nodded. “I’m sorry, I just... I couldn’t bear losing any of you. I can’t explain how I feel, but that’s the truth.”

To my surprise, Remiel’s face lit up, and he looked across to Ade.

“Well, that solves that problem then, doesn’t it?”

“What are you talking about?”

Remiel grinned. “Well, if she can’t choose between us, and none of us could bear seeing her choose someone else, I guess that means she gets all of us.”

I blinked. “All of you?” I repeated slowly.

He nodded. “Yes, it’s perfect. We’ll just share.”

Ade stared at him. “Share? Share Dylan?”

“Are you still asleep? Yes, share her. I mean, it worked pretty well just then, don’t you think?” His eyes trailed down my body, and I felt my skin heat up under his gaze as I remembered.

I looked up at Ade. A smile was starting to form on his face, and excitement sparked inside me. He nodded slowly.

“I would be honored to share you, Dylan. Is it something you would be happy with?”

“I...” I couldn’t speak, my mind was leaping about, and the feeling their hands on me was extremely distracting.

“Maybe you shouldn’t decide now,” Eleth cautioned gently. “Take some time. We need to stay a few more days. Remiel still needs rest and food to get his strength back up, but when we leave, maybe you could come with us?”

“It might be dangerous.” Ade frowned.

“Fighting more hellions?” I questioned, shivering at the memory.

“Not just that,” Jophiel replied. “We need to come clean with you, Dylan.”

“We... I guess you might call us deserters,” Ade murmured, lacing his fingers through mine. “We left our host.”

“Why?” I asked.

“We’ve trained for battles and fought in many over the years, but rarely on Earth,” he explained. “When we came down from Heaven, it was with the understanding that we were here to defeat the hellions and protect humanity, something we’ve sworn to do for eternity.”

Eleth took my other hand. “Since we’ve been on Earth, there have been choices made and orders issued by our commanding officers that we weren’t comfortable with—choices that led to the death of many humans.”

“Like what?” I asked, my eyes wide.

He looked at Ade. “We were tracking a herd of hellions through a city. They swarmed into an apartment building, and we were ordered to trap them inside. Our commander ordered that the building be torched with holy fire to destroy them all.”

“It was night, and there were hundreds of humans inside their apartments,” Ade added, tightening his grip on my hand.
