“No more what?” I asked.

He thrust into me hard. “No more. No more loss. I can’t... I won’t... Just no more...” He was practically incoherent, and he slammed into me with every word. I winced, and my fingers found his, prying them off my hips, before I pulled away. He tried to grip me harder.

“Stop,” I said. He froze, still buried deep inside me. I pulled away and stood up, my skirt falling to the ground.

He remained on his knees, his cock hard, his chest rising and falling under his laboured breathing. He refused to meet my eyes. I took his hand and pulled him up so he was standing then pushed him down onto the bench next to Jack.

“You’re pissed at me,” I said quietly.

He nodded, not looking up.

“Why?” I asked, though I was pretty sure I knew the answer.

He looked up at me. “You left. I thought I’d lost Sadiq, and then you left too. You actually left and tried to die. You wanted to leave me and...”

“And what?” I urged. “Tell me all of it, Zayn.”

He shook his head, looking back down.

I slid my hand under his chin and pulled his face up. “No, don’t look away. I did that, I ran away from it, from you. I command you to tell me.”

He reached up and grabbed my wrist, his fingers tightening around it as his face darkened in anger. “You left. You didn’t want to be here. You didn’t want to be with me or to trust me. You didn’t love me as I have loved you, as any of us loved you. You chose death over me, and it broke my heart. Is that what you want to hear?” Tears ran down my face, but I ignored them. I lifted my skirt with my other hand and climbed onto his lap, sitting astride him. He held onto my hand as my other hand slipped beneath my skirts and wrapped around his cock. I watched him, never taking my eyes from his, as I slid down over him. He closed his eyes briefly as my pussy enveloped his hard length, and then opened them again to stare at me.

“I’m sorry,” I whispered. I pressed my lips against his, but he refused to kiss me back, so I kissed him again and again. “I’m sorry,” I whispered between each kiss. I began to move slowly up and down, and his breathing sped up. “I know I need to earn your forgiveness, but please, Zayn. Know I left because I thought it was the right thing to do. I thought you’d all be better off without me, that you’d be able to live normal lives again without this... curse. I wanted to free you, not break your heart, and I’m so sorry.” His grip on my wrist loosened, and his arms came around me, though he still didn’t say anything. I watched him silently as I rose again and again. The desperate need to be filled by something had faded, and my heart ached for him.

“I love you,” I murmured. “I love all of you. And you have my word. I will never, ever run from you again. I will never leave you.”

His grip tightened around me, and he leaned forward to rest his forehead against mine. His need rose, and his cock hardened inside me. I rested my hands on his powerful shoulders as he rose to meet me. He groaned with every thrust, twisting his hips as he plunged slowly inside, hitting places inside me that made me gasp. Every nerve danced with the sensation, and yet another wave, silent and strong, crested inside of me. I wanted to sink my teeth into him, to claim him as mine, but he already knew he was mine. Right now, he needed to know I was his. I tipped my head back, arching against him as the waves of pleasure broke over me.

“Take me, Zayn,” I whispered. “Make me yours for always.”

I gasped as his teeth broke my skin. The fire of pain and pleasure rushed through my veins, and there was a muffled groan as he thrust up into me, finding his own release. He pulled his mouth away, licking me clean, but I wouldn’t let him move me, and for a few minutes, I just stayed that way, with his cock deep inside me and his arms around me as I stroked his hair and told him I loved him.

Chapter eleven

TORY

Ilookedatmyselfcritically in the garden mirror, twisting my hair and trying to redo the hairstyle that had taken the stylist hours to complete earlier that afternoon. We had told her that we were going to a costume party, and it seemed as though she had bought that explanation, though the house decor maybe had not helped with us trying to convince her that we weren’t nutters obsessed with ancient Egypt.

I laughed out loud at the thought of walking into that hall again with my hair a mess, because the white silk of my dress was now dyed bright red in patches where my priests’ blood had spilled. If I was supposed to be embodying Bastet tonight, I had missed the mark, because I definitely looked more like Sekhmet, the warrior. I had sent the priests back into the house, claiming I needed a few minutes on my own before I rejoined the party. They had assured me that showing up covered in blood was not a problem, and I was learning to trust them. In reality, I needed a few minutes to deal with Zayn’s revelation. I knew I had upset them all when I ran away like that and chose to die, or at least tried to. I hadn’t realised until now exactly how much I meant to them, but it was starting to be much clearer to me. The depth of the feelings they had for me, and I for them, were so strong and scary, but it made me want to shout to the heavens that I was in love and wasn’t the world a wonderful place. I took a breath, trying not to get carried away. I didn’t want to spark another rush of memories like before. They seemed to be coming thick and fast now, and although they weren’t changing my sense of self like I had been afraid they would, I was definitely feeling braver and more confident about who I was. The fear that I would become some kind of monster was ebbing away as I let the memories in and saw countless lifetimes of love and lust and happiness with my men. I could see what we had once had, and I could see that we could have it again if I just stepped up and claimed it.

I took another deep breath, squaring my shoulders and looking myself in the eyes.

“Feeling better?”

I gasped as a woman moved out of the shadows to my right. She stepped up to the mirror with me, reaching up to smooth my hair in an oddly familiar gesture. She wore a white dress similar in style to my own, only with fine linen instead of silk. A woven belt with many hues wrapped around her waist and fell down the full-length skirt, bringing colour to the outfit. A smaller matching woven band was wrapped around her head, and her dark hair was streaked with silver. Her face was lined, and her eyes were dark and bright. She ran her hand down my arm, and I noticed she wore golden bracelets that jingled with the movement.

“It’s lovely to finally see you again, Bastet, it’s been too long. You were here for such a short time in your previous life, I never got the chance to see you.”

“I’m sorry,” I murmured, turning around to face her. “I don’t remember who you are yet.”

The woman smiled and shook her head.“Don’t worry, my child, your memories will return. Though perhaps you might need to learn how to stop them from overwhelming you in case this happens again. I can see being in a less welcoming environment might have caused you quite some discomfort had you not been able to seek the relief you needed.”

My eyes widened, and my face burned as I realised she knew what I had been doing only a short time earlier. Did you... I’m so sorry, we didn’t realise anyone was out here. Oh gods...”

The woman laughed and waved her hand. “Oh, it was quite entertaining. Remember, child, we come from a time when sex was as natural as breathing. I remained hidden because I didn’t want to interrupt you. It seemed like an important moment for you all.”

“It was,” I said quietly.
