Page 30 of Her Dark Powers

“Oh gods, Austin,” she cried, her breathing fast and hard, her breast crushing against my chest with each rise and fall. “Take me, goddess. I want to feel you take me as I make you come,” I said, turning my head. She didn’t hesitate, driving her fangs deep into my throat. She gave a primal growl as my blood ran into her mouth, and I moved my hand faster. Desire ran through me as I considered everything I was going to do next, starting with removing her clothes so I could see that gorgeous body properly. I would kiss every inch of it... Her hand suddenly reached down between us, wrapping around my cock through my boxers, and I groaned. Maybe I would fuck her hard first, and then afterwards, I’d kiss every inch of her body....

“Austin, please... please,” she begged, pulling back.

I slid my hand away, pushing it inside her trousers until I found the warm, slick pussy that needed my touch. My cock jerked. Fuck, I wanted to bury myself inside her. My fingers moved through her lips and into her pussy, the heel of my hand sliding over her clit. She cried out, and I added a third finger, fucking her slowly, drawing her higher and higher until she suddenly pulled me against her, her nails sharpening into claws that raked down my back, drawing blood as she called my name. She bucked against my hand, instinct trying to draw out every last sip of pleasure. She buried her face in my shoulder, shaking as she came down from her high. I couldn’t wait any longer. I started to slide her trousers down her thighs, revealing the dip of her hips and the roundness of her belly.

“West! West!”

A sudden hammering on the door had me cursing loudly. “What is it? Can it wait ten minutes?”

Tory grinned up at me. “Ten minutes? Really?” She pushed her hips up and rubbed against my cock.

“Trust me, if I lasted two right now, I’d be damned proud of myself,” I muttered.

“There’s a Peter Raynier on the phone, from Paris? He says he needs to talk to you urgently.”

“Fuck,” I said. I brushed my lips over Tory’s and pushed myself up and sadly away from her delectable body. “I need to get this. It could be about Hattie.”

Her grin faded into concern. “Yes, of course, go.” She reached up to touch my face and smiled gently at me. I smiled back. We weren’t how we used to be, not yet, but we were getting there. I swung my legs over the bed and pulled on my shirt and trousers from the night before, then slipped out of the door. Jasper stood outside holding my mobile. I must have left it on the sofa.

He grinned at me as he handed it over. “Bad time?”

“Oh, fuck off,” I muttered, though I couldn’t help grinning back as I took the phone from him. “Raynier, it’s West...”

“Three more are missing?” Jack asked, staring up at me from where he sat to my right at the kitchen table.

I nodded, leaning my hands on the table the rest of them were sitting at. I couldn’t sit down, I was too riled up. “That’s what Raynier said.”

“Who exactly is Raynier?” Tory queried. I looked over at her as she tucked into her third pain au chocolat. She had showered and dressed in a pair of skinny blue jeans and a white blousy shirt that reminded me of her flowing white dresses in the temple. I couldn’t resist a small smile, and my heart jumped a little when she returned it.

“Raynier is the Renenutet’s high priest. Teddy put me in touch with her high priest last night, and he rang back this morning to confirm. Three more gods are missing, two for several weeks, one only three days ago.”

“Which ones?” Zayn asked. “Anyone we know?”

“Not really, I said, glancing at the sheet of paper I’d scribbled the names down on. “Really just minor gods, to be honest. Hedetet, Khenmu, and Nehkbet.”

“It just doesn’t make any sense,” Wesley muttered, flicking through one of his books. Another pile sat to his left, already discarded. “They don’t exactly compliment each other. Hedetet protects from scorpion bites, Nehkbet is a vulture goddess who also protects people, and Khenmu is the god of pottery. Not exactly threatening figures.”

“And it’s not as though they’ve been seen as being threatening either,” Zayn added.

I looked at him. “Explain.”

He shrugged. “They’ve all been taken, that’s what the evidence suggests. Overpowered and taken. Not hurt, not killed. That would imply to me that someone needs them for something.”

“But what on earth would they need them for?” Teddy asked. He sat on my left, having shown up at the door twenty minutes after I’d notified him that I’d heard something. “Hathor is the goddess of beauty, love, and drunkenness, so what on earth would they need her for?”

“Drunkenness, really?” Tory grinned. “That makes a lot of sense now.”

Teddy smiled sadly. “Yeah, even with the shock of finding out, she still laughed at that one.” His smile faded, and he turned back to me. “Wesley’s right. There must be a reason someone is taking all of these gods, but why, and more to the point, who?”

“Isn’t it obvious?” Tory asked, looking around. “It’s got to be Golden Dawn. I mean, they came after me twice.”

I looked over at Jasper, and he looked guiltily back.

“What?” Tory inquired suspiciously. “I know that look, Austin. What have you kept from me this time?”

I held up my hands. “I wasn’t keeping it from you exactly, I wanted to be sure before we said anything, but we were going to tell you.”

“Tell. Me. What,” she said slowly, her eyes flashing at me and then at Jasper.
