I’d messed up big time by not implementing consequences or rewards. I’d find a way to fix the uncertainty it had caused in our relationship.

“Okay, you’re speaking the truth, Lee. I appreciate it even though it’s hard to hear. Can we shelve that topic for one second and focus on work?”

“Fine.” His eyes didn’t agree with the words, but I continued onward to stay focused.

“You’ve been running yourself ragged, Doc. Do you have paid time off you can put in for?”

“My surgical schedule is booked solid. It’s not like a retail store where there is a crew to cover you.”

“You didn’t answer my question.”

“Yeah, I have the time.”

“A little respect in your answer, Lee.”

“I have leave time available to me, Sir.”

“Good boy.”

His eyes widened as he stared at me for a moment before his muscles relaxed. Those two words appeared to have lifted a hundred pounds off his shoulders. “Thank you.”

I beamed inwardly, beyond proud of him. It hadn’t taken as much prompting as I thought it would. It felt like we were skating around something much bigger.

A Daddy-Dom dynamic? He needed a daddy as much, if not more, than Emma did.

A romantic relationship? Elias never expressed an interest in men, at least not that I could recall. Thinking of icy cold showers, something I’d had to do way too often today, stifled the erection suddenly pressed against my jeans.

“How many days do you get off?”

“Twenty-eight.”

“Is there a limit of how much you can take at a time or any type of restriction?”

“No, Sir. I’m booked six weeks out at any given time. However, I can rearrange some of my schedule.”

“Request at least seven days tomorrow when you go in. I understand it might take a little longer, but I want at least two days of vacation to occur within the next two weeks. We’ll look over the rest of the calendar together after you get home. Understood?”

“I hear what you’re asking, however this house doesn’t feel like a home when you’re not around. It’s easier to throw myself into my career rather than face the emptiness. If I take time when you’re off in Denver with Emma, it’s going to devastate me.”

“I’m not planning on bringing Emma to Denver. Besides, this event is significantly shorter–four days–and I’ll be back home. You are very capable of handling yourself and Emma for less than a business week.”

“Right. She gets the accountability, repercussions, and rewards while I get nothing.”

“You’ll get all of it as soon as I get back.”

Something flickered across his face. I hoped the reality of the situation was sinking in. I was establishing our dynamic right now. We’d never crossed the line of our friendship into a sexual nature before, but I might as well push against that line too.

“Will I?”

Elias bit down on his lip after the question tumbled out from between his lips. The gesture made me hard again. Swiping a thumb across his mouth, freeing his bottom lip from his teeth, I shook my head. “Quit biting your lip or this conversation is going to end differently than I intended.”

“Perhaps you should punish my mouth then.” His lip twitched. “Sir.”

“You’d like that, wouldn’t you?”

“Not as much as you would.”

Elias could teach a course in the art of bratting, but he’d never battled me quite this hard. Deciding to act rather than continue the banter, I flipped him across my lap. Elias landed with a pained groan, rather than one of surprise. I adjusted him slightly, into what I hoped was a more comfortable position.
