“It would have been nice to have a meal and connect with the two of you, darling, but now the plans have changed.” I squeezed her hand. “I’m not mad.”
“I’ll find a way to make it up to both of you.”
“Yes, you will.”
Leading us out the back entrance and into the parking lot, I scanned it. Elias knew there was hidden VIP parking at the regular venues I frequented, and I hoped that we would find him irritated but still hanging out in the parking lot. Luckily, I saw the huge black SUV before I saw him leaning against the driver’s side door, scowling. His expression didn’t change as we got closer.
“Emma pocketed my keys,” he said simply.
“Give Elias the keys, darling.”
Emma shook her head so hard that strands of her hair slipped out from her braid. “No. If I hand over the keys, he’ll leave, and it will be all my fault.” She wiped her face with the back of her hand. “I just wanted to see the horses and the attendant thought I was in the show. You’ve both been encouraging me to face my fears and take a leap of faith. I did it.”
I needed to gain the upper hand here, but I wasn’t entirely sure what the two of them needed. Emma could have been injured. Elias seemed to be stuck in his head again about not being good enough for me.
“Yes, darling. I understand why you did what you did. You wanted to take a step toward the unknown. I am proud of you for getting out of your comfort zone. However, you need to do as I asked. Give Lee the car keys.”
“No, Sir.” Emma stomped her right foot. “I royally fucked up enough the past few days. I’m not going to mess up again.”
“One,” I warned.
“Fine! When my heart gets broken into a million fucking pieces, no one will be able to glue it back together.” She stomped to the truck and held out the keys.
“Right. I’m a brain surgeon, not a cardiologist.” Elias took her hand and pulled her into his arms. “You scared me.”
“I’m so sorry, Daddy.” Emma buried her head into the crook of his neck. She whimpered as he held her close. “I wasn’t thinking. Please don’t leave me.”
“My first instinct was to run away because it’s hard for me to let other people see that side of me. I’m sorry for also scaring you.” Lee let her out of his arms.
“Thank you, Daddy.”
“We’ll talk more about it later.” Elias glanced at me. “I apologize for telling you to fuck off, Sir.”
“Seeing you and Emma tonight made me so happy but there will be repercussions tomorrow. Tonight, I want the two of you on your knees begging for a release. How does that sound?”
Emma turned around, her mouth wide open. “Wha-what?”
