"Oh shit, what is it? Not photos from the other day…"Landon’s voice rang out of the phone speaker.

"Ha! I wish," she muttered as she brought his face back up on the screen.

"Youdo?"

"Yeah, because then I’d be fired and wouldn’t have to deal with this disaster. You know about this upcoming VIP visit, right? Stan Takahashi, some big Japanese media mogul? Lori’s been losing her shit. Like, I’m not kidding, she’s crazier than normal and that’s saying something."

"Oh I’ve heard about it," Landon said. "She’s been trying to get me to have brunch with him or something. I guess he’s a fan."

"Yeah, and we’ve all heard that you won’t agree. She’s been on a rampage about it, so thanks for that. Anyway, apparently he’s coming in early. Like this next Saturday for the home game against the Cubs instead of in two weeks like he was supposed to. Instead of after the banquet. Oh my god, no, just noooo."

"Justrelax, baby, youcouldrunthatVIPboxwithyoureyesclosed. It’s just another night game and, once you’re through it, I’ll have brunch withyouSunday in my apartment."

"Don’t tell me to relax, Landon. Not everyone’s like you. Most rich people aren’t content with 'whatever you’re making today,'" she said, mimicking how he’d ordered tacos during their first lunch together. "Weeks of preparations have gone into this. Ordering specific foods that have to be fresh. I have his favorite champagne coming from France. We have chefs reserved and restaurants on standby. Plus, I’m the lucky one that gets to tell the group already scheduled to have the box on Saturday that we have to reschedule. Rich people just love rescheduling. Allthis, mindyou, isontopofourstandardworkload. Thankgodyouguys are on the road. I would literally never get any sleep if I had to work the games and get all this done. Even without you distracting me, even if Takahashi came in two weeks like he was supposed to, I’d still be overwhelmed. And Lori, ugh, my god, Lori!"

"She’sprettytough,huh?"

"Tough? Tough I can handle. Tough you can break through. She’s just so demanding, all the freakin’ time. There’s never a kind word ora pat on the back. It’s like working for my mother."

He gave the appropriate cringe of sympathy, but surprised her by throwing in his two cents. "Look, Lori can be hardcore, but she’s not as brutal as she comes off. My guesswould be that she’s putting you through a bit of a rookie boot camp just to see if you can handle it."

"How long is boot camp in the military? Like eight weeks? I’m going on almost five months now!"

"That’salongtimeforoneofherassistants, soyoucan’ttakeit personally. Look she knows what she’s doing and she’s very respected in the industry. When she finally does warm up to you, you’ll see she’s softer than you might think."

"Ohmygod,yousleptwithLori?!"

It was both a question and an accusation, and Katie’s heart thundered in her throat like a freight train as she waited for his response.

Landon just rolled his eyes. "Geezus, Katie, I did not. I can’t appreciate a woman’s positive attributes unless I’ve slept with her?"

"Sohowdoyouknowallthisabouther?"

"For starters, her husband is my agent. We all have dinner together once a month."

"Oh."

"But I actually met Vincent after Lori. Remember when I told you about getting caught up with that sleazy PR firm? She was the one that finally pulled me into her office and got through to me that I needed to get outofthatdeal.Thensheplayedhardballwiththem, saidmycontract with them was invalid because it went against the publicity clause in the contract I signed with the Mavericks. When that was settled, shesetmeupwiththerightpeopleandgotmeontherightpath to rebuilding my image. It’s been over three years since I’ve had any big fuck ups, not that anybody notices that. They just care about the times cops are called."

The story touched Katie and she went into work that day with renewed admiration for the Dragon Lady, mixed with a dash of hope. Hope that her job might get easier one day. Hope that Lori might respect her. Even hope for the possibility of a future that included Landon. Someway, somehow.

That was onTuesday. By the time Saturday rolled around, Katie dearly missed the word "hope."

Ryan Relieved by the Rain?

Bad weather forced the Pittsburg Pirates to delay their final home matchup against the Idaho Mavericks and baseball fans are split as to if Landon Ryan is angry or breathing a sigh of relief.

The Mavericks shortstop is on a 21 game hitting streak that many expected Pirate veteran pitcher Johnny St. Pierre to cut short. Ryan has dominated the Pirate’s bullpen this week with six hits over three games, including two home runs, but the slugger has struggled against St. Pierre in the past, a rivalry that dates back to their days at Boston College. In the majors, they’ve faced off in 36 plate appearances with Ryan producing just two hits.

With thunderstorms forecast for the rest of the day, the Mavericks are already on a plane home where they’ll meet the Pirates again next week, this time on their own turf. A makeup game has been added to the schedule and the two teams will finish out their matchup with a double header in Idaho. Pirates Manager Sonny Walters says St. Pierre is on the rotation to pitch the second game of the day. If Ryan keeps up his streak, he’ll be swinging for number 29.

Which hot shot athlete is shaping up to be the top gun in his sport and in the bedroom of a certain blonde actress? He’s known for hitting home runs—on and off the field. She’s known for being less than angelic—on and off the screen. Remember her dalliance with that son from that famous political party?

Athlete and Actress were spotted discretely lazing by the pool at a fancy east coast hotel. They booked a private cabana where they enjoyed frozen drinks, rubbed each other with sunscreen, and even went in for a little tongue action.
