“She is doing okay,” he answered from the closet.

I snuggled under the covers and drifted to sleep. As much as I wanted to watch him put on his suit, my eyes wouldn’t stay open.

The potato chipsmade a satisfying crunch as I chewed on the salty snack. My eyes remained glued on my laptop as I watched a psychological thriller that had made me stay in the room since morning. I felt annoyed when my ringtone interrupted me. It was Tristan.

“Hey,” I said sweetly.

“I just left the office. Be ready before I get there.”

Ready? For what?

“I can’t wait to spend the evening with you,” he said.

Oh shit. The date!

“You’re gonna bail when you see the dress I have on me,” I teased, looking down at my big T-shirt, covered in crumbs from the potato chips.

“Chloe,” he groaned.

“Bye!” I said quickly and hung up.

I rushed down from the bed and ran to my wardrobe. I never took the time to pick out what to wear. I undressed and ran around the room, only in my underwear and bra as I changed clothes after clothes.

I got frustrated and called Belvina on FaceTime. She was in the bathtub.

“Any reason you want to see me naked?” she said, finding a place to balance her phone, her breast on the screen.

I looked away, cursing at her while she laughed.

“What? You’re also naked,” she said, smirking.

“What are those marks on your body?” she asked, leaning closer to her phone.

I looked down at the fingernail and bite marks Tristan had left all over my body from last night. He’d just loved branding me every chance he got. For some weird reason, I’d liked it.

“Oh, don’t tell me,” she said, shaking her head in realization.

I explained my situation to her, and her eyes lit up like stars in the sky.

“I was born for this. Show me what you have,” she ordered.

I placed my phone on the bed, using my pillow to hold it up. I showed her my whole wardrobe, and it only took her five minutes to match an outfit. I didn’t bother with a shower as I put on a draped, ruched black silk dress, my scar safely hidden. I walked to the dresser and straightened my hair as Vina told me about her new coworker who made her want to jump off a cliff. With her help, I was able to get my makeup done quicker than when I did it on my own.

“Guess how many screenshots I have taken of you. They will make premium memes.” Vina laughed.

I rolled my eyes as I put on my accessories in haste.

I smiled at myself in the mirror as I applied the lip gloss; even I couldn’t stop admiring how good I looked.

I heard footsteps approaching my room, and I knew it was Tristan.

“I will talk to you later. Bye,” I said quickly and hung up.

I stood up and grabbed my strappy heels. There was a knock on the door as I tried to force my leg into the first heel. The door opened, and Tristan appeared, looking drop-dead gorgeous. I could stare at him forever—that was how good he looked.

“Almost done.” I grinned.

He walked into the room in his expensive suit. His long legs approached me, and it was hard to breathe as he went on one knee in front of me. His callous fingers gripped my leg and helped me to put on the shoe. I did the straps while he helped with the other shoe.
