Prosper sighed. “Have Jules look into the mother.”

Reno hesitated for just a split second before he bent his head and began to text Jules again.

Prosper lifted his chin to Derringer. “You good to finish up here?”

“Oh yeah.” Derringer grinned at the one remaining captive.

“Hey, I told you everything I know…” The man squealed out in horror.

Derringer looked at Prosper. “I believe him. He don’t know jack-shit about anything else.”

“Your kill, your call,” Prosper said to Hal. Without hesitation, and without sparing a glance at the chained man, Hal spat out, “Take your damn time, and make it fucking hurt.”

Derringer gave him a wide smile and an army salute. “You got it, Captain.”

To Hal’s immense satisfaction, Derringer had the little cocksucker screaming before the men cleared the warehouse.

“What the hell—just when I thought things couldn’t get any damn worse.” Prosper mumbled and rubbed his hand over his jaw when he looked across the parking lot. Every man’s jaw dropped when they saw Pinky teetering across the gravel towards them in her six- inch heels. The layered gold bracelets on her wrist jingled as she waved at them to stop.

“How in the fuck did you know where we were?” Prosper growled at her. “Club business, Pinky. Not something I want you anywhere near.”

Pinky eyes flashed guilt for just a moment while her hand waved at him dismissively. “Never mind that now. You’re looking for Valentina?”

Prosper’s eyes narrowed but he really wasn’t surprised. Over the years the one thing he had learned about his wife was that putting her on aneed to knowbasis was a goddamn waste of time.

“Well, I know where they took her.” Pinky looked as satisfied as a cat with a belly full of cream.”

“Yeah?” Prospect snorted. “You got a crystal ball now? Gonna change your name to Gypsy Rose Lee?”

“Gypsy Rose Lee was a stripper not a fortune teller.” Pinky gave her husband a look of exasperated impatience before she continued. “Last fall, I donated to a crowd-funding thing for the development of these tiny portable GPS locators. I got a sample product in the mail a few days ago. Just for the heck of it, I put one in the backpack I loaded up for Valentina. I was curious to see if it worked, and it does!”

“Crowd what?” Prosper scowled.

“Crowd funding,” Diego answered for her. “Inventors and shit raise money to develop their stuff by getting small amounts of cash from a large amount of people. It’s all over the internet.”

“That’s exactly right.” Pinky beamed at him.

It hit Prosper then that even though it seemed that his wife knew a hell of a lot about how he spent his time, he knew next to nothing about how she spent hers.

“I printed out the location for you, and you can take my phone. There’s an app for the device so if they move her, you can follow. But there’s always the chance that they made her dump the backpack and the tracking won’t help.” Pinky frowned.

Hal took the map from her and gave it a quick look before he handed it back to Prosper. “This makes sense. Fits the description of the area.”

Just then the warehouse door opened and Derringer stepped out into the sun— his bloody hands were busy wiping themselves off on a clean rag.

“Hey, pretty lady.” Derringer looked at Pinky and winked. To everyone’s surprise she blushed a deep crimson.

“Derringer.” She nodded to him after a brief hesitation. Then she looked away and said quickly to her husband, “So you should be able to find her now. I’ll leave you to it.”

“What’s this?” Derringer stuffed the bloody rag in his back pocket and reached for the map.

“Pinky put a tracking device in Valentina’s backpack.” Diego grinned with pride at his mother-in-law’s ingenuity.

“No shit? The one from that crowd-funding gig you were telling me about?” Derringer gave out a low whistle and looked at her with admiration. “Smart fucking thinking.”

With a scowl Prosper looked from Pinky to Derringer then back again. Then Prosper said pointedly to his wife. “I’ll see you at home.”

“Alrighty then,” she said after a slight but awkward pause. “Nice to see you again, Derringer.”
