“Come on, we’d better get going or we’re going to be late to our first class.” I don’t argue with him, I’m not even sure he’s wrong about them. My heart drops into my stomach making me feel deflated. Eric’s right. I’m just a human in way over her head. I should keep my distance from all the Gods.

Our first class turns out to be History of the Gods in classroom three, right next to the courtyard we gathered in on the first day. It also turns out to be a joint class with the Gods-in-training. The moment we walk through the door, Eric’s attitude changes again, he grabs my arm and steers me to the opposite side of the room from the three Gods-in-training, putting me right in front of the bitch-Goddess who looked down my dress at the assembly.

“Ah there she is. Thank you for bringing her to me, Eric.” To my utter shock, Eric pushes me into the seat and then crosses the room and sits down a few seats away from Kier, Ty and Seth.

“So Eric tells me you’re in a bit of a bind. Being harassed by those triplets. I’d like to offer my assistance.” The smile she flashes at me isn’t in the least bit friendly.

“I don’t know what Eric has been saying, but no one’s been bothering me and I don’t need anyone’s help.” I push up from the desk and move to the front of the classroom. As far away from everyone as I can get. Everyone else has seated themselves as close to the Gods-in-training as they can get, so I have an entire row of seats behind me empty and half the seats to my right. It’s perfect. No one to bother me and no far too sexy Gods-in-training to distract me.

The teacher walks in, his eyes going straight to me for some reason. Thankfully he doesn’t say anything, just walks over to the front of the classroom and lifts his hand. A piece of chalk floats off the desk and begins writing on the board behind him while he stands there looking from one student to the next.

After a while he nods, then turns to face me again. “Miss Day, I’d like you to pair up with Mr Typhon.” He glances over to Kier, Ty and Seth and amends, “Mr Kier Typhon.” Kier stalks down the classroom until he’s in the seat beside me, a smirk plastered on his lips.

I turn my attention back to the teacher. Two by two he separates the class, pairing everyone up until we’re all in different seats, as far away from everyone they’d all been with when he first walked into the classroom. I feel a twinge in my chest as I see Ty paired with another human girl. Thankfully Seth is paired with a guy who looks like he could be one of the Gods. They fist bump and start talking like old friends which makes me smile.

“This seating chart is non-negotiable, so make sure you remember where you are and who you’re sitting with. One mistake or change and you’ll be writing out lines for the entire class that day and staying back to complete the actual day’s work.” Everyone grumbles but he doesn’t let them do it for long, “Right, now that that is settled, I’m Mr Wolfe, I teach both History of the Gods and Mathematics, so you’ll have both lessons right here back to back. The seating arrangements will carry over to Mathematics as well, so don’t even bother trying to move once the chimes sound. You’ll have fifteen minutes of free time between the two lessons, wherein I expect to see you all applying your newfound knowledge to complete the assessments I assign each day.”

There’s an audible groan from most of the class, however I don’t make a sound. Neither does Kier, he just sits there, staring at me out of the corner of his eye. I’m not sure why he’s staring like that, it’s pretty obvious that he is and I’m sure it must be painful but again, I don’t say a word.

“Miss Day, kindly come here please.” Frowning, I get up from my seat and skirt around Kier’s chair into the aisle. “Would you mind handing these out to the class then returning to your seat please. Thank you.”

Mr Wolfe’s request is said in such a sweet and kind tone that I don’t feel in the least bit like he’s demanding anything of me, so I move along the rows, passing the books out. A few of the girls in the class glare at me but I ignore them. Well, I might have dropped their books onto their desks a little harder than necessary, but I don’t call them out on their glares.

Once I return to my seat, I place the last book on my own desk and look back to Mr Wolfe.

“In front of you is a notebook that is spelled to remain small and light, no matter how much information you put inside it. I’d suggest that you utilise the tabs inside to mark out your subjects and please remember that loss or theft of these notebooks will result in you having to buy a new one from the mall, bear in mind that they’re not cheap and you will only be allowed to replace them once per year.”

He begins the class by going over the basics, who the first Gods were, who they paired with and all that. Eventually the time runs out for History of Gods and he tells everyone to put their pens down and stand up for a stretch. We’re not allowed to move around the room, but he allows a bathroom trip if anyone needs it. Due to skipping breakfast, I’m fine but almost everyone else leaves. Except for Kier, Ty, Seth, Eric and the Bitch-Goddess.

Even the teacher leaves the room to go grab a cup of coffee. It’s like a bomb waiting to go off, at first everyone just sits there, staring around the room, then Eric’s on his feet, the Bitch-Goddess is on hers and Ty and Seth follow suit. They all converge on my desk, surrounding me. Kier’s smirk grows bigger as he watches it all happen. I’m fairly sure I’d be catching flies if there were any.

“Not having any troubles huh? Then why are these three forcing teachers to play matchmaker?” Before I can even try getting a word in, she continues speaking, “You know they’re only interested in getting into your pants, once they do, they’ll kick you to the gutter and not bother looking back. It’s what all Gods do with humans.”

“Come on Nyssus, you’re just jealous cause none of us have ever given you a second look.” Keir laughs.

“Well not none of you. Eric rather enjoyed my attention last night.” She gloats, making me finally turn to look at him. His entire face turns red and he starts shaking his head, “It’s not. That’s not….”

“Oh I see how it is, sleep with a girl then try crawling back to your ex as though it never happened. Such a typicalhumanthing to do.” Nyssus says, making Eric cringe. I can feel the tears prickling the back of my eyes, but I refuse to let them fall. She’s welcome to Eric if that’s what he’s been up to.

“Don’t look at me like that, Ryx, it’s not like you’re so innocent. Everyone knows you slept with Seth last night.” Eric snaps glaring at me.

“Not that it’s any of your business, but I haven’t slept with anyone.” I snarl.

“I saw you going into his room last night. You’re just a slut. You’ve probably fucked all three of them by now.”

My jaw is officially on the floor. Not once in all our years of friendship has Eric ever said anything like that to me. I turn my back on him, choosing to stare out the window instead of listening to this B.S. I feel a hand on my thigh, squeezing as though trying to comfort me. I can tell from that touch alone that it’s Kier, the warmth that fills me from his touch is enough to keep me grounded.

“Back off man. That’s not cool.” It’s Seth’s voice that I hear as Kier moves his hand so that he’s holding mine. He links our fingers together, stroking his thumb across the sensitive skin.

“I think you two should return to your seats.” Kier growls.

“Took the words right out of my mouth. All of you return to your seats. Now!” Mr Wolfe bellows from the doorway. “Miss Day, may I have a word outside please.” With tears threatening to spill from my eyes, I pull away from Kier, keeping my head down as I get up and make my way to the door. Mr Wolfe places his hand at the small of my back, ushering me out of the classroom.

“I think it would be for the best if I send you off to see Mr Hades, the liaison for the dorms, I’ll put in a request for you to be moved to a new dorm. What thatboysaid is highly inappropriate and will not be tolerated. Regardless of any proclivities you may or may not have, we Gods are an open-minded people and we do not ever tolerate slander such as what I just overheard.”

I can’t even argue with him, he’s right. Eric’s crossed a line that he’s never crossed before and he has no idea just how much it hurts me.

“Yes, Sir.” I mumble, shuffling my feet. “Where?”
