“Um, yes to a few of those questions and no to others. Do you have a card so I can call you with more details as we make the arrangements?”

“Absolutely, darling.” Julian flipped out his hand and it contained his business card. “My personal cell phone number is on the back. Make sure that you message me so I can add your phone to mine for immediate access.”

He gave Bria another once over. “Oh, it’s going to be such a pleasure working with you.” Julian kissed Bria’s hand before running off to take care of an emergency.

“He’s something else, isn’t he?”

I laughed at her expression.

“Absolutely, and completely gay as well. So there’ll be no worries about jealous hands touching my bride-to-be’s body.” I gave her a wink. “We have just one stop left and for this one you’re going to be in for the biggest surprise.”

We walked into the pawn shop as Sylvia walked around the counter and gave me a quick kiss on the lips before pulling back and staring at Bria, whose jaw was a little tight.

“Who’s the chick, Luci? What’s she doing here?” Her questions were curious and completely expected.

I gently but firmly pulled her away from me.

“This, Sylvia, is my bride-to-be, Bria,” I announced.

“Oh, I see.” She eyed Bria suspiciously from head to toe. “Well, I don’t know how well you know him yet, but I will tell you, Luci here is a good lay.”

I simply rolled my eyes at her words, but noticed Bria’s jaw outright clench.

“Sylvia has been working with our family since she and I were in grade school. She thinks just because we had a kindergarten engagement that she’s allowed to kiss me whenever she wants.”

“Well, I’ve been doing so for years. Why would I stop now?” She gave me a knowing smile, which made Bria bristle. It was good to know that she could be jealous too.

“Don’t worry, Sylvia and I never slept together. Although, not for her lack of trying.” I assured Bria. “She and I work better together as almost siblings than we ever work together as boyfriend and girlfriend.”

“Oh, and did I mention Sylvia is gay? So she doesn’t exactly like what I have between my legs either.” Bria’s immediate relief made me smile.

She smiled wide at Sylvia. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Sylvia. I’ll be helping Luciano with some of the extra business activities and he’s just showing me the ropes.”

“Honey, you shouldn’t have volunteered to help. Now you’ll actually have to put in real work and there’s no need to be doing that if you really don’t have to.”

Surprisingly, Bria kept her mouth shut. Wonders would never cease.

I shook my head at Sylvia’s antics, but she just wiggled her little finger at me.

“All right, let’s get to what you came here for and we know it wasn’t the entertainment.”

We both followed her to the back room where she showed me this week’s haul.

Most of the time we didn’t fence things, but there were the rare occasions when items of a larger nature came on the market and we scooped them up before selling them back to their owners at a much higher price. The owner got to enjoy the insurance payout and we got to make money in the process.

Back in the car, we discussed some of the details from the different businesses we had visited and what her thoughts were.

Her responses and questions showed that not only did her business degree help her in our line of work, but she was quickly proving to be an asset. She really did manage her family business and it showed. She made a few suggestions that I hadn’t thought of and that would be beneficial when implemented.

When we arrived back at the mansion, there were two wedding planners sitting in the living room waiting to sell us on their ideas. I wouldn’t lie, I wasn’t too excited to be planning a wedding. I had shit to do, but the look on Bria’s face made the idea all that more appealing. She clearly didn’t want to be planning a wedding.

“Do you want to have us take one each or should we bring them both in together and begin telling them what we want in order to see which one would be able to handle it in less than two weeks?” I waited to see if she picked the same option that I would have.

“Together, that way we can both weigh in and discuss the details with them at the same time.”

I nodded, exactly my thoughts.
