I walked into the back just like any one of the family or friends would, and Al immediately came out of the office to greet me.

“Ah, Bria, nice to see you.” He gave me a big hug.

We visited for a while and toured the facility. I could tell that Luciano was impressed with the respect and deference that each one of our workers showed me. All of the workers were regulars, except for one guy, who came out from under a car right as we were about to leave.

“You’ve got quite an ass. Those cheeks look like they could be ridden for miles, and I’d like to take that for a ride,” he commented toward me as I walked to the door.

Al rolled his eyes and ran a hand over his balding head, I immediately picked up a tire iron and knocked his legs out from underneath him where he was left kneeling before me and smashed in one of his kneecaps.

“Hi, I’m Bria Montrelli and really soon-to-be a Romano as well. I suggest that you watch what you say and not make inappropriate comments. Not just to me, but to any woman that walks through these doors. If I find out you’re mistreating women, you’ll get a lot worse than a tire iron to your legs.”

“Yes, ma’am,” he muttered. Through pain filled eyes, he began to cuss at me as I walked away. “Fuck you, bitch. How dare you pull something like that on me?” He said it quietly, but not quietly enough that I couldn’t hear him.

Evidently choosing not to listen to my warning, I wasn’t surprised when Luciano pulled a gun on him before I could manage to respond.

He wanted him confused and scared.

“Hi, I’m Luciano Romano, and no one disrespects my fiancée in that manner. If you apologize to her, I’ll let you live.”

Suddenly fearful and realizing he had overstepped, he apologized to me.

“I’m sorry, miss. I really didn’t mean any harm. It’s just something we guys all do.”

“Well, it’s just something you will do at another job because you’re fired as of right now. I shouldn’t have to warn you to keep your mouth shut about anything you’ve seen here, but you say anything about our operation and our “feeding you to the fishes” won’t be the worst of your troubles.” I bent over to his level. “Do I make myself clear?”

His eyes widened as he realized the implications of what my statement meant.

He nodded quickly and grabbed his bag of tools before hobbling and hurrying to leave.

“What am I going to do with you if we have to keep hiring new mechanics?” Al just shook his head.

“They should learn some respect for their elders.” I chuckled and gave him a quick hug before we left. “We’ll be back to see you.”

“Wow!” Al snickered, “Oh, I so hope it’s going to be soon. I’ll need to hire more workers and keep those in line.”

“Maybe you should teach them how to respect women and especially their boss.” Luciano gave him a warning look. In certain situations there were no jokes to be made with him.

“Yes, sir.” Al nodded. “I’ll make sure to do that.”

He knew that I was more lenient when it came to him, but that Luciano would not be in the future.

When we got back to the mansion, it was time for dinner, and both of his parents were there with us.

It was a nice quiet dinner, and I remained silent except for when spoken to. I’d been contemplating all the different things from our days of working together. There were a lot of changes all at once, but it was always good to shake things up on occasion.

“So tomorrow we’re going wedding dress shopping. Is that correct?” Krysten asked me.

“Yes, ma’am. My mom and sister are going to come as well. I was hoping that you’d join us too. If you can take the day off, that is?” I broached it as a question because I didn’t want to assume that she could just change her world around for me.

“Absolutely! I’d love to go. There’s this lovely little bridal shop in the boutique area that I found a few months ago. I’d love to see if you can find something there. Can you let your mother and sister know what time to meet us? We can start there and move on if you don’t find anything to suit your fancy.”

“Yes, ma’am. I can do that.” I was starting to get a little excited about the idea of wedding dress shopping.

As soon as dinner was finished, I sent Carina a message while we were walking up the hall toward the bedroom, but she didn’t answer.

Neither did my mother, which really wasn’t shocking coming from her, but it was kind of concerning that my sister didn’t message back.

We walked into our bedroom. “Um, hey, this might not be anything, but my sister isn’t texting me back. She always at least responds with a thumbs up or a be right back or something so that I know everything’s okay.”
