“Okay, I can do that.”

I closed my eyes and sighed with relief.

Once everyone else had gotten their photos and cleared out to head to the large tents that had been erected this morning on the back lawn, I walked with my father down to the grand banister in the front hall.

It was time for a few pictures with my father and a few without, then I was ready to walk down the aisle and get married. This was it. The moment that was going to change my life forever.

CHAPTER20

Luciano

The wedding daywas here and the tents had been erected. People had been arriving for hours.

When a mafia don’s son got married, it was a big deal. When he married a mafia princess, it was an even bigger deal. People were coming that only had a loose connection but wanted to see a wedding of this caliber.

The parking lot was full of mobsters with guns, soldiers, and bodyguards, all bringing their families to see the merging of the Romano and Montrelli families.

I walked down the aisle a few times, escorting my mother and others of importance to their seats.

Everything looked absolutely beautiful, but I was ready to see Bria. Who I knew would be the most beautiful part of the day?

The congregation finally settled down and the music turned from playing instrumental orchestral music to the wedding march.

As soon as the music played, I calmed and couldn’t wait until I could say she was mine after this.

I looked down the aisle to see my bride appear and stand in place for a moment. I heard the gasps from people over how beautiful she looked. She ignored everything around here and stared at me. A soft smile played on her lips and she slowly started coming toward me. Tears welled up in my eyes. I took a steadying breath, as I didn’t want to cry in front of everybody. But after last night, I knew without a doubt she was it for me. I had fallen hard for her.

She was beautiful, gorgeous even. Inside and out. Everything I could have ever wanted. The perfect partner for me considering the life of crime that we led. Her abilities to run an outfit matched my own, and I couldn’t wait to start our life together.

We each took our places on the small marks of tape that had been put on the grass, so we’d know where to stand.

This was it and the moment that I never thought I needed. I gazed into her eyes and held her hands firmly in mine, stroking my thumbs over her soft skin. I would never get tired of touching her.

I was getting married to a woman that had always been my enemy and instead she had been my comfort. The strength I needed when I lost my father yesterday.

That was something I was going to look forward to during the coming days and months. Her strength was going to keep me going.

“We are gathered today to celebrate the union of these two families. The love of these two…” I tried not to snicker at his words and continued to gaze into her eyes.

So many thoughts were flickering through my head.

The loss of my father, suddenly having a woman at my side that would work with me as a partner, taking over as the head of the Romano mafia company all in a matter of days, it was a lot to handle, but now I was getting married. She openly accepted it all, and wanted to be a part of it.

The priest must have asked a question, but I wasn’t sure what he’d said.

“Do you, Luciano Angelo Romano, take Bria Sophia Montrelli to be your lawful wedded wife?”

“Yes.” I shook my head to come back to the present.

A few chuckles could be heard throughout the tent area.

“To have and to hold through better and for worse?” he continued. Oops, spoke too soon, eh, at least she knows I’m eager.

“Yes, I do.”

The priest turned to Bria.

“Do you, Bria Sophia Montrelli, take Luciano Angelo Romano to be your lawful wedded husband?”
