“No. Well, I wanted to talk to you too. Both of you are at the ranch?”

“Yeah. You need something?”

Everly paused. “David came by.”

Blake straightened. “What?”

“A little bit ago. He was angry that I hadn’t been answering the phone.”

“Did he hurt you?” Blake was a peaceful man, but he wouldn’t hesitate to exact physical justice if anyone ever hurt Everly.

“No, but he scared me a little.” She huffed out a deep breath. “He said I have until Wednesday to get my stuff out. He’s sending a realtor and some other people to get the house ready to put on the market this week.”

“You’re kidding.” The words came out angrier than he’d intended.

“I wish.” She puffed another breath. “I need to get to work, but I’m a little shaky.”

“I’ll be there in a few minutes. I just have to get Ridge.”

“You don’t have to leave work. I was just wondering if you’d bring a truck over later. I have a few heavier things that won’t fit in my car. It’s not a lot, but I could use some help. Please.”

“Ridge and I will be on our way in five minutes. Just sit tight.”

“You don’t have to rush over,” she said again.

“Ev, I’m on my way.”

Everly’s words were quiet but strong. “Okay. Thank you.”

Blake hung up the call and turned for the door.

“Where are you going? Is she okay?” Stella asked.

He stopped with a hand on the doorknob. “David came by the house. She sounded kind of shaken up.”

Stella covered her mouth with a hand before lowering it and smoothing the front of her shirt. “Go on. Call me if you need anything.”

“Thanks.” He stepped out onto the porch and almost ran into Jameson and Ava. Jameson was the foreman, and his wife, Ava, was part owner of the ranch.

“Hey, Everly just called and said she needs some help.”

Ava’s brow furrowed. “Is she okay?”

“Yeah.” Blake looked around, not sure how much he should be telling everyone, but Jameson and Ava were good friends with Everly. “She broke up with David yesterday, and she needs to get out of the house pretty quickly. She needs help moving some stuff.”

Ava’s hand wrapped around Jameson’s arm. “We’ll be glad to help.”

“Well, I was actually just asking if I could cut out of here, but–”

“We’d still like to help,” Jameson said.

Blake shrugged. “I’m sure she wouldn’t turn down the extra hands. She needs to be out by Wednesday.”

Ava straightened her shoulders. “That’s crazy. The place is huge. She can’t pack everything up in just a few days.”

“We’ll get her out of there,” Blake promised. “I need to go tell Ridge.”

“Let me shut things down in my office, and we’ll be right behind you,” Ava said.
