“Ah.” Colt pointed to the wall beside Blake. “Is this seat taken?”

“No, but fair warning, I’m not good company.”

“You have a falling out with Everly?” Colt asked as he leaned against the wall.

“I hope not, but all isn’t perfect in paradise.”

“How bad did you screw up?” Colt shoved his hands in his pockets and settled in for the talk.

Blake shook his head. “Where should I start?”

“That bad?”

“Maybe not. She’s just not ready to talk about it yet.”

“Did you send flowers? Women love flowers.”

Blake narrowed his eyes at Colt. “Since when are you the love expert?”

“Oh, you’re talking about love? In that case, I know nothing,” Colt admitted.

Blake shoved his shoulder against his friend’s. “You do too. How long is it going to take you to tell Remi you love her?”

Colt rubbed his chin. “Let’s see. It took you almost a decade, so I have about five years before I work up the courage to get shot down.”

“Dude, Remi wouldn’t do that.”

“Have you met her? She’s ruthless, and she doesn’t need a man for anything.”

“Who said anything about needing a man? We’re talking about love.”

Colt held up a finger. “Stop twisting words. I’m confused enough as it is.”

“Welcome to the club.”

Colt crossed his arms over his chest and frowned. “Should we call it the he-man woman haters club?”

Blake laughed. “More like the lovesick fools club.”

The back door opened, and Everly stepped out. Her hair was pulled into a loose ponytail of curls that hung over one shoulder, and the silver dress shimmered in the sunlight.

Blake stayed quiet, certain that any sudden movement or noise would send her running away again.

Colt pushed off the wall. “Well, I have to run.”

Everly’s attention whipped to Blake, and her subtle gasp made his heart stutter.

“Hey, Everly,” Colt said with a wave.

Her wave was half-hearted. All of her attention was focused on Blake.

Man, it was scary what she could do to him with just a look.

When the door closed behind Colt, Everly wrapped her arms around her middle. Was she cold or uncomfortable?

Blake peeled off his suit jacket and handed it to her. “Here.”

Everly hesitated a moment before accepting the coat and wrapping it around her shoulders. “I didn’t know you were out here.”
