Remi tucked her shoulders in and crept back into the doorway. Her smile said she’d gotten an eyeful of that make-out session.

“Sorry to interrupt, but have either of you seen Colt?”

Blake and Everly answered in unison. “He’s looking for you.”

Remi threw her head back and laughed. When she’d cackled enough, she wiped her eyes. “Thanks. I’ll leave you two to get back to what you were doing.”

Blake’s attention jerked back to Everly. A faint blush started at the neckline of her silver dress and crept up her neck.

He’d never be able to look at Everly without remembering this moment. She’d changed something inside him, and he’d never felt so determined to guarantee the happiness of anyone in his life.

Everly began, “That was–”

“That was perfect,” Blake said, reaching up to trail his fingertips along her temple.

Everly just stared up at him with a smile on her face–a smile she was trying desperately to control. “Perfect.”

“How much longer do we have to stay here?” Blake asked.

Everly chuckled and slapped at his chest, but her hand lingered there, right over the spot where his heart was working overtime.

“We’ll be here for a while, but I was wondering if you’d dance with me.”

Blake lifted her hand and kissed her knuckles. “You remember our first dance?”

“I’ll never forget it,” she said quietly.

They’d come a long way from that night he’d taken her to Barn Sour after David had hurt her, but that first dance marked a turning point in their lives just like their first kiss.

Everly was his one and only. Now that they were together, he truly had everything.

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

Everly

Everly tossed an empty roll of packing tape into the trash and wiped her forehead with her sleeve. “How many more boxes?” It didn’t seem like she’d moved in with this much stuff, and most of the bigger things were staying.

Blake pretended to count on his fingers. “Two.”

“That’s all? You mean, we’re done?”

Everly pulled a pitcher of water from the fridge and filled their cups. Blake stepped up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. Every time he did or said something sweet, those warm and comforting friendship feelings she’d had for him raged into a wildfire inside her. She didn’t regret their friendship. Her love for him was stronger because of it.

Love. She loved Blake, and the magnitude of that realization was as powerful as a Wyoming snowstorm inside her.

“We’re done.” He kissed her temple and stepped back, leaning against the island. “Tomorrow’s the big day.”

Everly smiled and handed Blake his water. “I can’t believe I lived here for months and didn’t find a decent place to rent or buy.”

“All in good time. Plus, you’ll love living at the ranch. That’ll be fun.”

Everly sipped her water as Blake chugged his. The room she’d be moving into at the main house was a blessing. She loved Mr. Chambers’s place, and any other time, she’d be bursting with excitement to stay there. But nagging uncertainty pulled its claws over her mind. All of this was temporary. She wanted a home. A real one. A place to call hers.

Blake had been a huge help. He sent her listings at least once a day, but she still hadn’t found the one.

Blake rested his empty glass on the counter and sighed. His white T-shirt hugged his chest and arms just right, and his dark hair was tousled from wearing his hat at work earlier. He’d come home from a ten-hour shift, scarfed down dinner, and got to work helping her pack.

She might not have found the perfect house, but she’d found the perfect man. Blake was all she’d ever wanted and more.
