A lone figure is sitting in the sand and when they look up, my breath hitches and I almost stumble when I realize it’s Calliope. She looks amazing in her running gear, my eyes roam over her as I walk toward her.

“Good morning, Calliope,” I offer by way of greeting.

“Morning, Mr. H,” she replies with a nod and a shy smile.

“Mind if I join you?”Please say yes. Please say yes.

She nods. “Of course, it’s a free country … and I wouldn’t mind the company.”

Dropping down next to her, I pull my legs up like hers and silently we stare out at the ocean. The silence isn’t awkward, if anything it’s calming. A smile appears on my face at that thought.

“Mr. H.” The sound of her soft voice pulls me from the view and I turn to face her. “What’s got you grinning like that?”

“You,” I honestly tell her. Her cheeks tinge pink at my honesty. “That color suits you.” Her cheeks darken further and I’m sure she’s remembering exactly what I’m referring to. “I haven’t been able to get that image of you in the private room out of my head.”

“I haven’t been able to stop thinking about what happened in your hotel room.” She pauses and then adds, “Well, I’ve tried to forget the end part but up ‘til that bit, it was the best moment of my life.”

“I’m so sorry I treated you how I did, Sunshine. It’s not every day that I make out with my best friend’s daughter, it … it took me by surprise.”

“I think it took both of us by surprise but really, are we surprised it happened? We’ve been dancing around each other since that first night in New York. I … I’ve had—”

Reaching over, I place my finger on her lips, shushing her. “No, Calliope, don’t tell me what you want because I know we both want the same thing. And … and I don’t think I can hold myself back anymore. I wanted so much to fuck you in that restroom last night, but you deserve more than a quickie in a family restroom. You deserve everything, Calliope, but I just don’t know if I’m the right man to do it.”

She grips my wrist and removes my hand from her lips. “Can I tell you what I think?”

“Of course, you can tell me anything.”

“I think we’ve had years and years of foreplay, and I think it’s time we took that final step. I want you, Mr. H.”

Silently I stare at her and process her words. This conversation is going much smoother than I thought. It seems we are both on the same page, but there’s one factor I’m not sure I can get past. “What about your dad?”

“What about him?” she nonchalantly says with a shrug. “This is between you and me. Everyone else can take a flying leap off the clifftop. Mr. H—”

“Mr. H, really? If we do this, I need you to call me by my first name.”

She laughs. “Okay, Mr. H.” I eye her and she giggles. “My bad.” She shimmies around to face me. “Okay, Kane, what do you say, do you wanna leap with me?”

ChapterTwenty-Three

Holy shit, I can’t believe we are considering this. Never have I been so glad for insomnia to take hold of me and bring me to the beach so we could chat. I don’t think we would have been as honest with one another in his office. Anyone could have overheard us but here on the beach, it’s just the two of us, it’s perfect.

“Okay, Kane, what do you say, do you wanna leap with me?” Waiting for his answer is killing me and thankfully, he doesn’t make me wait too long.

“I’ll leap with you, Calliope. I’d leap into the depths of hell for you.”

Before I can register what’s happening, he pushes me back to the sand, covers my body with his, and presses his lips to mine. I slide my hands into his luscious locks and he moans into my mouth when I gently pull on them. My body is buzzing right now, if I thought the kiss in New York was perfect, this kiss trumps that one tenfold. This is the kiss of all kisses and it’s cementing a new journey for me … for us.

He pulls back and immediately I feel the loss. I begin to think he’s going to run just like he did last time, but he shakes his head. “I’m not going anywhere, Sunshine.”How did he know?“But we need to stop. Otherwise, I’m going to fuck you here in the sand and now that the sun is up, people will be here soon, and you deserve more than a quick sandy fuck. You deserve to be treated like a princess.” Both our eyes widen at the use of princess—Dad’s pet name for me. “I … umm, shit, I promise never to call you princess again.”

“Thank you. I don't want to be thinking of Dad when we’re, you know …”

“I know and neither do I. I want my sole focus to be on you, and all the pleasure I’m going to pull from your body when we finally take that leap. Sunshine, when I finally get my hands on you, you won’t be able to walk for a week without people knowing you’ve been fucked ten ways from Sunday.”

Nodding, I bite my bottom lip. I want him to do everything he just said and more. “When?”

“When what?”

“When can we, you know? Do all that you just said.”
