After I heard the news that Yuri pulled through and that the Zaragoza’s smuggling enterprises were stronger than ever thanks to a new romantic alliance, my blood boiled. I’d hated Yuri since I was too young to hate, and I was convinced the feeling would never go away.
Naturally, I’d been ousted from my own family.
But luckily for me, I held an ace that Yuri was too big-headed to anticipate.
“Mr. Zaragoza, follow me.” A deep voice beckoned, and I trudged behind him. I bit into the side of my cheek to keep from showing the pain as it radiated down my leg, but the pain was only temporary. Revenge lasted a lifetime. And if I was going to burn Mexico to the ground to get it, I would.
A masked man sat in a gaudy chair and stroked the arm covered in velvet. It was extravagant and I had no doubt it was an intimidation tactic meant to scare off any potential tricks. On both sides, men were lined up with their guns pointed at me. Unlike their leader, their faces were uncovered and not a single tattoo swirled on their exposed skin. “You’ve come to discuss an alliance?” The voice came from behind the mask, slightly muffled.
I nodded. “I want to help you take down the Zaragoza Cartel and I know exactly where to start.”
“Hmm,” the man made a show of tapping his finger. “And in return?”
My lips pulled into a smile. “I get to kill Yuri myself.”
The men at his sides chuckled as if my ask was too high a price to pay. As if the man on the throne had a personal vendetta and would also want to pull that trigger himself. I didn’t let it bother me. All the better if the Desalmados wanted to play dirty.
He nodded. “What is this bit of intel?”
“Lucia Alicia Zaragoza. She’s Cesar’s youngest daughter, the baby of the family. She’s delectable and very much spoiled.”
His head cocked, intrigued with the information.
“I have a way you can get your hands all over her.”
With a sweeping motion, his arm raised and pulled on the mask, uncovering the long black locks underneath. A jagged scar raked down his face and deep into his neck, his eyes glowing an icy blue.
“Deal.”
