She digs her fingers into my shirt, scratching my chest with her nails in pleasure. I could’ve stood like this forever, but when she moans into my mouth, I realize that if she does it one more time, I won’t be able to control myself and enter her right here, right now.

“Let’s get out of here,” I whisper as I pull away.

She gasps for air; her eyes are glittering under the moonlight.

“I can’t,” she whispers. “I don’t even know you.”

I take off the mask right away to show her my face.

But she doesn’t recognize me. She looks at me as if she’s never even heard of me.

“You showed me your face, but that doesn’t mean anything,” she says, taking a step away from me. “I still know nothing about you.”

“What are you afraid of? That I might kill you? You’re already dead.” I smile slightly, and she smiles back, and that’s the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in my life.

“I’m afraid of this feeling; I’ve never experienced this before,” she says honestly, her eyes getting sad.

“Me neither,” I confess, taking both her hands in my arms.

“You didn’t?” she asks with surprise, as if she thought otherwise for some reason.

“Never,” I say confidently, looking directly at her.

“So it’s not just...lust?” she asks with such relief, those deep green eyes expressing hope, that I chuckle.

“No, my beauty, it’s not a simple lust,” I say, “but the desire is raging within me.”

I take her hand in mine, intertwining our fingers, and lead her down the stairs into the garden.

“Where are we going?” she asks, not with worries, just with curiosity.

“To a place where no one will disturbs us.”

The covered pavilion is next to the lake, at the end of the garden. It’s vast, with its kitchen and living room. That’s the most beautiful place in this castle, and, as it usually happens, it has rarely been used.

“It’s beautiful here. How do you know about this place?” she says, looking at the lake. She still has no idea it’s our home right now, for as long as Darius will stay the head of the society. Just like a White House belongs to a current POTUS, just a couple of centuries longer.

“I come here sometimes when I need to think,” I say honestly. I’ve been here three times since we moved into this house two weeks ago. It’s a place where no one can find me and disturb me. I’m a loner by nature; I’m not fond of too many meetings and talking like my brother; I need to be alone sometimes, and this place is perfect.

As we enter the pavilion, I lock the door and walk the room to close all the curtains. We usually use it for the sun since vampires don’t like the daylight, some are even allergic, but I don’t want anyone to see us. For some reason, since I saw this beauty, I tried to hide her from everyone else. I wouldn’t say I want the whole ballroom to look at her, and I don’t know why.

You think someone might see what you see in her and want to take her for themselves.

The thought appears in my mind, and I roar in anger because I know it’s true. I’m afraid to lose this woman. I’ve known her for like ten minutes, and I don’t even know her name, but I’m already willing to do whatever it takes to keep her.

“What’s wrong?” she asks when she hears me roaring. I look at her, pulling the last curtain.

“I have no idea,” I say honestly, and she looks at me, frustrated.

I go over to the wine fridge in the corner, which always had been used for fresh blood bottles, and pull the tastiest, most expensive blood we have. When I’ve filled two glasses, I come to her and extend one of them.

“Drink it to the full, and then I’ll give you more,” I command, and she takes a glass from my hands.

“I’m not hungry,” she whispers; her hands shake as she takes the blood.

“Yes you are,” I say and extend a hand, gesturing to her to take a seat, and when she does, I take a seat next to her. “You haven’t eaten anything, and you need energy.”

“You’ve been watching me?” she says with surprise.
