“That’s the point.”

“Let him go!”

This plead was from Patricia, and I tilted my head at her before releasing Buddy from my grip. He fell back, scrambling to get away from me as he coughed and spluttered, gasping for air that never felt so precious.

Sliding back in the leather seat, I asked again, “Who do you work for?”

“We don’t know,” Buddy spluttered.

With a well-aimed kick, I broke his nose, and he was knocked out, falling back with his knees tucked under him. Patricia looked at me with a mixture of rage and fear. “He was telling the truth.”

“Yeah? Maybe you just need to jog your memory.” When I stood, they cowered but didn’t stand to meet me. At least they were good at following orders.

But I already knew that about them.

Someone organized this and knew my largest and most profitable venues. These people were simply pawns, and while once up on a time I would’ve held a certain level of sympathy for them, my patience was nonexistent at this point. I needed everything they knew to track down whoever was responsible and make them pay.

Remove them from my path, and I could continue to grow my empire.

Make an example of them, so anyone else considering it would think twice.

How much was their life worth?

Grabbing a handful of Patricia’s hair, I lifted her to her feet. Damien was on his feet straight away, and I didn’t need to know the ins and outs of their relationship to see his protectiveness over her. Humans were so easy to read—Buddy was like the little brother surrogate, but Patricia and Damien, something else was going on there. With those sideways glances they cast each other, those knowing smirks as if to saywe got this, babe.

We’ll see.

Twisting my fist into her hair, I landed a punch against her nose. Damien screamed in rage but could do nothing as Sven wrapped his arms around him, pressing his palms to the top of Damien’s head so he was held like some sort of puppet with his arms in the air. Patricia blinked blearily through the droplets of blood splattered over her eyes as she barely held onto consciousness.

“Tell me what you know…” I growled, sliding my glasses off and letting my eyes travel to Damien before finishing my thought, “… or I’ll fuck her in front of you, choking her so she takes her last breath when I fill her with cum.”

“You sickfuck!”Damien cried, while Patricia just groaned, sliding in and out of consciousness.

“Who do you work for?” I bellowed at Damien, and he shrunk away from me, his eyes glazed with rage and fear, flickering between mine and Patricia as she struggled to remain standing.

“We don’t know!” he cried back. “Please, it’s the truth. I swear, we don’t know. Just let her go.”

Releasing Patricia’s hair, she slumped to her knees, and Damien rushed her as Sven let him go, letting her lean against his legs and brushing her hair with his fingers, whispering sweet nothings and lies about how it was all going to be okay.

Nothing would be okay for them, not now they were on my radar. If they wanted to stop looking over their shoulders, they would need to leave my city.

Afterthey told me what they knew.

AndifI let them live.

“Tell me what youdoknow,” I said, my fingers clenching and releasing at my sides.

There was a shadow of a smirk on Damien’s face, and I’m sure if I hadn’t threatened Patricia the way I did, he’d be openly laughing in my face.

Heknewsomething.

When my arm twitched toward him, he flinched. “It was one of your people.”

Silence.

Damien was glancing around the room, but no one but me was looking at him.

All eyes were on me.
