“What the hell is going on here, Lukus?”

Brianna and Lukus both swung around to see who’d entered. Lukus gave his friend a look that would intimidate a lesser man, but James simply shrugged it off.

Brianna, on the other hand, looked utterly confused at the appearance of the family friend. She raised her arms, attempting to cover her naked body. Lukus watched her closely and knew the second that her modesty took a backseat to self-preservation. He didn’t stop her from jumping to her feet and rushing into James’s arms, hugging him around his waist, holding onto him for dear life.

“Thank God you’re here, James. You have to get me out of here. I need to get home to Markus. Did he send you for me?” she begged.

With her face buried against James’s chest, Brianna was oblivious to the silent showdown the two dominant friends were having behind her back. If looks could kill, both men might have been dead on the floor. Lukus could tell James didn’t approve of Brianna’s naked and welted condition, but Lukus was just as furious that James was undoing all the progress he’d made that morning. Through dominance and humiliation, he’d been chipping away at her defenses, moving her closer to signing the divorce paperwork. Now, James was comforting her and setting them back.

James turned his attention back to the distressed woman in his arms, finally answering her. “Brianna, Markus didn’t send me.”

Bri hiccupped, brushing away some of her tears as she asked, “What do you mean he didn’t send you? Why else would you be here?”

James glanced at Lukus and then back down at Brianna. “Did you cheat on Markus?” When she didn’t answer, he pressed the question. “Did you? Did you let someone else fuck you?”

Lukus couldn’t see her face from his vantage point, but he heard the growing panic in her voice. “No… you can’t be…?” Brianna shook her head in disbelief as she realized he’d not come to save her. Lukus knew her next question was laden with fear. “If Markus didn’t send you, why are you here?”

Maybe this will turn out okay after all.

“I’m here because Lukus called me. I’m a member of the club, Brianna. Markus and I were roommates in college. You know that. What you may not have put together yet is that Lukus was our third roommate. Now, I’m still waiting for your answer. Did you let someone beside your husband fuck you?”

Brianna’s head shook from side to side, her own brand of denial as she began to babble in her panic. “James… I didn’t mean to. Please, you have to believe me. I love Markus so much. I never meant to hurt him. I should have told Markus when Jake tried blackmailing me. I can see that now.” When James scowled harder, she continued on. “It was just a couple of times and I swear… I’d already realized what a mistake it was. I will never—ever—cheat on him again. I need to get home. I need to try to explain to him, try to make him understand…” Her rambling trailed off as she probably realized James’s face was only growing redder with her explanation.

James grabbed her bicep, yanking her to him roughly. “I think you’re gonna have to help Lukus and me understand why you would shit on your marriage first and then let us decide if you have anything Markus might want to hear. And I’m going to warn you, I can’t think of one possible reason that might be good enough to convince me that Markus shouldn’t dump your ass. I have rather stringent rules when it comes to fidelity and I’m positive Markus shares those same values.”

As she struggled to be free, Lukus caught a glimpse of her profile. Bri had the look of a deer caught in headlights, no doubt realizing that in the space of a few minutes she’d gone from having not one, buttwo,of her husband’s dominant friends out to get her.

“I’m waiting,” James demanded.

“You wouldn’t understand.” Her pitiful response came out as a whisper Lukus had to strain to hear.

“Try me.” James was playing his role as hardass perfectly.

“It sounds terrible.”

“Worse than hearing you let someone else fuck you?” James’s voice was hard as nails and Lukus had the perfect vantage to see that his blue eyes had turned ice cold.

“Stop saying it like that,” Brianna shouted in high-pitched panic.

James didn’t give an inch, still gripping her arm to keep her from escaping his interrogation. “How would you like me to say it? I think calling it a fuck is better than saying you let someone else make love to you, isn’t it? Or are you in love with someone else, Bri?”

“Oh my God, no! It’s nothing like that,” she shouted, and Lukus welcomed her panicked response.

I think we’re making progress after all. We need to get this done, for all of our sakes.

“So, what was it like?” James wasn’t backing down. His voice stayed firm as he pushed for answers.

“I don’t need to explain myself to you! I need to talk to Markus. I’m begging you, James. Take me home to him.” Brianna first reached to hold James’s forearms, but when he didn’t budge, she changed it up, grasping at his button-down shirt to pull him closer.

He’d sat on the sidelines long enough. Lukus moved to stand next to them. “Markus made it clear. He doesn’t want to talk to you anymore. He won’t believe a word that comes out of your mouth anyway. You fuck around and lie like a pro.” Softening his voice slightly, Lukus tried again to convince her to take the easier way out. “There’s no making this better, Brianna. The sooner you realize that, the sooner you can sign the paperwork and go on with your life.”

Bri rounded on him. “I told you, Lukus,” she hissed. “I’m not signing the damn papers. There’s nothing you can do to me that will change my mind.” The fire in her watery eyes was back.

The woman seriously had a death wish.

“We’ll see about that, won’t we?” he spat.

James stepped in between them. “Okay, that’s enough you two. Brianna, I need to talk with Lukus privately.”
