“Off base? Hell, I’m in completely uncharted territory here woman, and you aren’t helping matters at all playing hard to get.”

“I’m not playing, Lukus. You have me so confused. We barely know each other, yet I’ve never wanted anyone as much as I want you right this minute. But then what? What happens tomorrow? The next day? What happens when things blow up in our faces and then we have to see each other when Markus and Bri invite us both over for a barbecue? I’m not into one-night stands, and I’m certainly not into sharing with other… what would you call them? Women? Subs? Slaves?”

“We haven’t even given this a shot yet. And even if things would work out, I’m not asking you to share me, Tiff. I’m not with anyone right now and I told you earlier; I’ve been in monogamous relationships before.”

“Really? For how long? A year?” Tiffany studied his face closely and when he remained silent, she continued on with her guessing. “Six months? Oh my God.” Looking panicked she finally guessed, “Three months? Am I even close?” When Lukus stayed silent, she flung her arms in the air, trying to push away from him. “Never mind, don’t answer that. I have my answer. You’ll never be able to do what Markus did for Brianna.”

Lukus reached to grab her close again. “Well considering Markus fucked everything up with Brianna, I sure as hell hope not.”

“I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about settling for just me when you can have any woman—hell, as many women—as you want here at the club. Women who will gladly do anything and everything you want from them without being afraid.”

“Tiffany Lauren O’Sullivan.” When she looked surprised at his use of her whole name he continued. “Yes, baby. I took the time to ask Brianna for your full name before the show started.” He loved that she looked pleased. “What makes you think the wordssettleandyoubelong in the same sentence? Call it a sixth sense, but I somehow just know I would never be settling to be with you. Did you ever think I’m the one with a boatload of baggage and maybe you’d be settling to be with me?”

Her breath was ragged. Lukus suspected their proximity was starting to get to her. He wasn’t surprised when she finally whispered, “Lukus… I’m scared.”

He brushed her cheek lightly with the backs of his fingers before gently pushing a stray wisp of hair behind her ear. “You can’t be even half as scared as I am, Tiffany. I don’t know what’s happened to mesince I met you, but I swear, you’ve knocked me on my ass. You have me acting like a fucking teenager instead of a Dom because I don’t want to scare you away. Please, can’t you at least give us half a chance before you throw it away?”

Several long seconds ticked by as they sized each other up before Tiffany finally seemed to come to some kind of conclusion. Her smile got bigger by the second. “So, you have a movie theater. It’s been a while since I went to a movie. I think I’d better check it out.”

His relief was palpable. “I even have a theater-style popcorn machine. If you’re a good girl, I’ll make you some popcorn.”

Her smile was contagious. “I’m always a good girl.”

Lukus was laughing. “Oh, I beg to differ. I’ve seen you and Bri in action. You’re both sassy little balls of fire.”

“Thank you… I think?”

Lukus took her hand and they slowly made their way up the stairs to the stage, on their way to his loft. They were just about to where Markus and Brianna had begun tomake upwhen Tiffany stopped walking, dragging him to a stop. She didn’t say a word, but she didn’t have to. Lukus could see the passion in her eyes. He saw her temptation. Did she want him to take her there just as Markus had taken Brianna?

Her uncertainty flickered once again on her expressive face, warring inside her. Lukus pulled her into his arms, holding her gaze… holding off kissing her as long as he could. He felt an urge to make this moment last. Finally, when he could hold back no more, he lowered his lips to hers in what began as a tender kiss. He reveled in how perfectly their bodies molded together as he pulled her curves tightly against him, making her his willing captive. While one hand held her waist against him, he couldn’t resist the urge to let his other hand drift lower to boldly cup that beautiful ass he'd been admiring since the moment he’d set eyes on her.

It didn’t take long for the gentle kiss to turn into all-out passion as Lukus slipped his tongue into the depths of her mouth, exploring and enjoying her purrs of pleasure. His heart thumped so hard, it felt like it could pound out of his chest. No woman had ever made him feel like this with a simple kiss…ever. It was his turn to be afraid. He wanted her bad, but he didn’t want to fuck this up. When he felt her grinding against him, he knew the time had come. He needed to do one final thing before he let this go any further. Earlier he’d planned to do it more as a small joke, but now… how he felt this very minute… it was no longer a joke. It was important.

Tiffany’s eyes widened when Lukus pulled out of their passionate kiss. He was pleased to see how much their kiss had been affecting her. Her chest was rising and falling as she gasped to catch her breath.

I hope you know what the hell you’re doing, sport. This could really blow up in your face.

“So, before we take this any farther, isn’t there something you forgot to tell me?” He tried to keep his tone light, although he was as nervous as hell.

“Like what, exactly?” Her voice was still breathy.

“I love how you gavemethe third degree about being in a monogamous relationship, but isn’t there something you’re forgetting to tell me about your own relationships, Miss O’Sullivan?”

He was actually thrilled when she continued to look lost. It told him he hadn’t been reading her wrong. He knew the second she realized what he was getting at. The panic in her eyes was palpable. He just wished he knew exactly what she was afraid of.

“Oh, my God. Wait. I was going to break up with him as soon as I talked to him tomorrow. I had already made up my mind.”

He hated how relieved he felt. “Sure, you say that now, but I think you were just about to cheat on Jonathan or Jack or whatever the hell his name is. I don’t appreciate being the other man. Not to mention, I don’t think this is a very good way to start things off with us… with a lie.” He paused for dramatic effect before flashing his most devilish smile. “You’ve been a very naughty girl, Tiffany. I think you’ve just earned your first punishment.”

Her answer came out in a panicked whoosh. “Oh, crap.”

It was a good thing he still held her tightly because at his words, her knees buckled from under her. “Whoa, there. I’ve got you, baby.”

It felt like they were both holding their breath… sizing each other up… figuring out exactly how the next few minutes were going to play out. The power dynamics at play between them felt important, like they were laying the foundation for the future.

Tiffany’s breath was labored. The look on her face fluctuated between fear, excitement, and guilt. Lukus finally decided it was time to put her out of her misery. Reaching into the pocket of his jeans, he fished out Tiffany’s cell phone he’d asked Derek to retrieve from her car after dinner. He held it up, expectantly, in front of her. “You have a decision to make. I’m not interested in a one-night stand with you either, Tiffany, and I’m certainly not interested in sharing you with Joe or Jeff or whatever the fuck his name is. You want this to happen, then you have a call to make.”

Her eyes were wide. “Right now? Isn’t it enough that I’ll call him tomorrow?”
