“Got it. You some celebrity with one name? Like Prince? Elvis?”

“No celebrity. Just a guy who likes his privacy.”

“I can respect that,” Lukus said before adding, “Pick your sub. I see the bigger stage is open now. I’ll meet you over there in a few minutes.”

Only after Maxim walked away did Lukus pull Tiffany up to her feet again. She had started to suspect what he was up to halfway through the strange interaction, but one look into her husband’s green eyes and she knew her hunch was spot on.

“You want to hire him to run the shows.” It was a statement, not a question. She crossed her arms, displaying the proper amount of her trademark sass.

Lukus grinned. “Oh, don’t even try to tell me you don’t approve. I felt you trembling as you watched him in that last scene. I just need to figure out if it was a fluke or if he’s the real deal.”

“And you think he’s just going to drop everything and move to Chicago? Lukus, we don’t know anything about him. What if he has a job here? Family? Hell, he could be an axe murderer.”

Lukus yanked her into his arms, holding her tight. “First, talk is cheap. The worst thing that’ll happen is we have some fun playing at Black Light and have a good story to tell later if it doesn’t work out. But second, and more importantly, I think I gave you strict instructions to call meSirfor the rest of the night. You are clearly still in sassy-Tiff mode. So, sure, the other thing I hope to accomplish is paddling that sass right out of you, baby.”

“Oh shit.”

“And that’s forty-eight cuss words. You’ll be sleeping on your tummy tonight.”

Fuck.

At least she kept her big mouth shut as she let the last curse word fly in her head.

Chapter Eight

Lukus

He was trying not to get his hopes up, but it was hard. He’d interviewed dozens of men to take the Master Dom position at The Pit. He’d hired, and fired, several of them and given a half-dozen more the chance to lead one show as a kind of on-the-job-interview. So many had bombed out that he’d begun to wonder if there just wasn’t anyone out there who could handle it.

This guy—Maxim—was the first Dom he’d met who he just knew in his gut would do an excellent job center stage five nights a week at The Pit. The problem was, he just had to figure out how to navigate through the awkward conversations with a man who clearly had no clue who Lukus Mitchell was, had never heard of The Punishment Pit, and unfortunately lived on the other side of the country.

Lukus parked Tiffany on her knees at the back of the stage while he went to track Tyler down. He found the DM in the Red Light District helping another Dom get a sub situated into the glory hole.

As soon as he’d finished, Tyler greeted him. “Hey there, Lukus. How’d the interviews go? You gonna steal any of my co-workers?”

He decided to hedge his answer. No sense telling Tyler something he hadn’t even told Elijah yet—that none of the DMs were a good fit.

“I’m still reviewing my notes and I’ll let them know. In the meantime, I’m setting up a scene on the main stage out there and could use another spanking bench brought up. You know where I can find one?”

“I’m done here. Let me track one down and we’ll bring it to you. Meet you there.”

True to his word, a few minutes later Tyler and Santiago came carrying the bulky wood piece of kink furniture from the back hallway, schlepping it up the steps to the main stage.

“Hey, I was pretty sure there was already one here,” Tyler added after putting the heavy piece down and nodding in the direction of the already waiting bench.

“Yeah, but we need two. We’re gonna be doing a scene with another couple.” As he finished his sentence, he thought to ask. “In fact, what can you tell me about the Dom named Maxim? He seems to draw a crowd when he plays.”

Tyler grinned. “Yeah, he’s definitely one of our more popular Doms for a few good reasons. He’s single and likes to play with a whole range of single subs, which is always popular with the ladies. And he’s still pretty new and keeps a low profile when he’s not playing so no one’s really figured him out yet.”

Shit, Lukus had hoped the DM would have more info. “Anything else you know about him?”

Tyler opened his mouth as if to say something, but then shook his head. “I’m sorry, but we have super strict privacy rules about talking about members. Maybe you can ask him directly if you need to know more. I see he’s headed this way with Fyre.”

“Fyre?” Lukus questioned. He glanced in the direction of the social bar to see Maxim leading a curvy sub their direction.

“Yeah, she’s a fiery redhead who doesn’t have a submissive bone in her body,” Tyler laughed.

“Damn, that means she’s in it for the pain,” Lukus said to himself as much as anything.
