“They found your shoes.”

“I’m not sure I want them back. They’ve been nothing but trouble since I got them.”

“All the more reason to get them. They’ll be a good reminder for you the next time you decide you want to go on an unauthorized shopping spree.”

As much progress as they’d made with solving their recent miscommunication problem, Caleb knew they weren’t out of the woods yet. After all, it wasn’t really the rules that Presley had balked at in the first place. It was the consequences for the broken rules she hadn’t embraced yet.

“Now, I’m going to ask you the question I asked you when we were at Black Light the other night. What do you think should happen because of all your broken rules?”

“Oh, for crying out loud, haven’t I been punished enough? I said I’m sorry,” she whined.

“I believe you do regret making the mistakes, but I don’t think you’re truly sorry because if you were, you wouldn’t be using that disrespectful sassy tone with meagain.”

A part of himself wondered if he was being too big of a hardass. After all, they’d been together for six months and this was the first-time things had gone off the rails between them.

But in his heart, he knew he wouldn’t be doing either of them any good by going easy on Presley today. Giving her a pass would just push the inevitable day of reckoning further down the road. He deserved to know if the woman he loved wanted the same kind of intimate partnership he did in life and Presley… well, she deserved to know exactly what it was she was signing up for if she stayed with him.

“I’m sorry, Daddy, but I guess I just don’t understand.”

“Which part don’t you get?”

“Why you told me to use ‘red’ as a safeword if I wanted you to stop, but then the first time I called it you wouldn’t accept it.”

Caleb struggled to find a new way to explain the domestic discipline way of life in a new way that she might understand.

“I made a mistake punishing you at Black Light,” he admitted.

“Why, because those men stopped you?”

“No, because up until now all of our visits there were for fun. For sexy time and yes, then thered, yellow, greensystem works fine.

“But I don’t just want to play or scene with you, Presley. I want more… to build our life together. I want to love you… take care of you. To be there for each other through life’s ups and downs, and yes… as the head of our household, to make rules that will have consequences when broken.”

“But what if it hurts too much and I need you to stop?”

“I’m asking you to trust me enough to consent to letting me decide when it’s time to stop.”

“So that’s it. I get no say?”

Caleb paused, knowing they were at the heart of the conversation. It really did come down to one thing.

“Baby, you have all the power. I’m not going to touch that gorgeous ass of yours again without your explicit consent.” He was supposed to be a Dom so the lump in his throat as he realized the real possibility that he was about to push Presley out of his life just pissed him off.

Just say your piece and then it’s out of your hands.

“The catch is that you need to consent now, upfront, not when it’s time for a punishment.”

“But what if I don’t know? What if I need more time to think about it?”

“Then I’ll respect your answer, but… well, then I think we should take a break while you think it over.”

It wasn’t unexpected when Presley burst into tears. Hell, he felt like crying at the thought of losing her too, but he was old enough to know what kind of marriage he wanted. More than anything he wanted it with Presley, but the ball was now in her court.

Caleb attempted to stand, but Presley flung forward, clinging to him, clearly afraid he was already leaving her.

“Stay here, baby. I need to go grab something that I think might help.”

He took a quick trip to his home office, returning with his laptop. Presley’s tears had stopped, but she still looked miserable.
