“Do you work for...” I glance up to the banner capping the top of the booth. “Die Another Day Games. Cute.”

“We’re all about the puns.” She nods and leans forward, almost conspiratorially. But there’s no whispering, not in here. The exhibition centre has a high ceiling and the noise is steadily getting louder. “Actually, this is my game company. I’m here incognito today—hence the mask—because we’re about to release a new game and I wanted to get some honest feedback.”

“How’s that going?” I raise a brow.

The woman sighs. “Could be better. We had some issues with the prototype and I wasn’t able to get replacement pieces in time for the convention.”

“That’s enough to upset people?”

She snorts. “Okay, so you’reclearlynot a gamer. Who dragged you here, Batman? Catwoman force you to dress up or something?”

“Actually, it was Sub-Zero.” I motion to where my brother and Glen hover at the next booth, oohing and ahhing over something.

“A cross-over, I like it.” Her purple eyes search mine and I feel a zing of electricity race along my veins. Since she’s so openly appraising me, I let my gaze slip down her body once again. The way she looks at me is bold, unafraid. Perhaps this is the power of cosplay anonymity. “Batman was a good choice for you.”

“Really?”

“You’ve got the right jaw for it. Good lips, too.” She cocks her head. “Not everybody can pull that off.”

Ha! Basic bro nothing.

“I could say the same for your outfit.” I stand back and watch as she gives a little twirl, flicking her cape and letting me get a glimpse of a very pert, very tight backside encased in whatever stretchy leather-look material her suit is made of. “Nowaycould I pull off that cape.”

The woman cracks up and the sound is glorious. “A hot guy with a hero complexanda sense of humour? You hiding a unicorn horn under that mask, Batman?”

“It’s not under the mask.”

“Dick jokes?” she says, planting a hand on one hip. “You’re smarter than that.”

“You overestimate my stamina for witty banter.” I smirk and she looks at me with an appreciative gleam in her eyes. “But—”

“Don’t tell me,” she says, halting me. “Your stamina in other areas is beyond comparison.”

At that moment, Dom and Glen wander over. They’ve got a bag with some purchase tucked inside and they seem happy as kids in a lolly shop. Seriously, they’re so sweet together I’m getting a cavity just watching them.

“Hey, big brother.” Dom claps a hand on my back. “Glen and I are supposed to catch up with a friend in half an hour, but we need to get to Hall B. Come with us. I’m sure Marty would love to see you.”

I glance at the woman. Her eyes haven’t left mine. Out of the corner of my eye, I see someone else in costume step into the booth, raising a hand in greeting.

“I actually have a break for the next forty-five minutes,” she says. “I don’t suppose you want a personal tour of the venue from a convention veteran?”

I turn to Dom. “Looks like it’s a hard pass on the catch-up. Say hi to Marty for me.”

Dom rolls his eyes. “Hard pass, indeed. Call me when you’re done. I’m banking on your hand-eye coordination to help us win one of the arcade competitions.”

My brother and his boyfriend head off into the crowd and I turn back to the redhead. “Good hand-eye coordination, huh?” she says.

“Goes with the stamina.”

The redhead steps out from behind the booth and I can see her costume in all its glory—the catsuit has a thick belt at the waist and on her feet are a pair of kickass boots adorned with brushed-silver hardware. She pulls a lime-green lanyard out of a basket and slips it over her head, then she hands one to me.

“You’re a staff member now,” she says, winking.

“All-access pass, huh?”

“If you’re lucky.”

Damn. This woman is everything I hadzeroidea that I wanted—she’s sassy, rocks her costume like nothing else and the slight purr to her voice has all the blood in my body heading south.
