“I don’t know, Dean! I don’t know, okay? I just know that you absolutely cannot touch him. You can’t mess this spell up. That’s all I know,” Amara shouted at me. She threw her hands up and paced away from me.

“I don’t understand what is going on with me. I feel like I’m going insane. I hear voices and someone whispering in my ear. I feel this weird power that increases at random times. I saved Lily for crying out loud! I have no idea what is going on. I’m losing my mind…” Amara cried, pulling at her hair and looking absolutely crestfallen. She looked so lost and small, my heart broke for her. I watched as she slowly lowered herself to the forest floor, wrapping her arms around her knees, staring off into space.

“Amara-”

“You should have left me in that dungeon, Dean. You were right to think I’m a threat. Who knows what’s going to happen around me? I don’t even know what I am or what I can do. You should leave me to rot in that cell,” Amara said, her voice low and full of misery. I sighed, running my hand through my hair and shaking my head. I glanced over my shoulder, seeing Luke finish up the spell and the air waved as the barrier around the town came down. Sam was standing opposite of Luke, mirroring his position.

“Amara, the barrier is down. Let’s go chat with Sam so we can prove that you’re not crazy. You’re going to be alright,” I said, gently grabbing her arms and pulling her to standing. She looked up at me, a few tears running down her face. I couldn’t stop myself from brushing them away. Her breath caught and she glanced down at my lips. I swallowed thickly, trying to keep my control in check. My wolf tried pushing me forward.

“Dean? Amara?” Luke asked. I pulled my hands away from her so fast that she fell forward slightly. I cringed as I watched the surprise and hurt cross her face. I cleared my throat and took a few steps back, turning my attention to Luke. I hoped against hope that he wouldn’t pick up on what happened, but the knowing look he sent my way said I was shit out of luck. I ran a hand down my face, tilting my head to stare up at the sky. This whole trip was becoming a major pain in the ass and I didn’t know how much more I’d be able to take.

“Hi, Alpha Luke. Thank you for inviting us into your pack lands. We appreciate your support,” Amara’s soft voice rang out. I glanced over my shoulder at her, watching as she lowered her gaze and bowed lowly. My wolf growled loudly, hating that she was submitting to another male. She only submitted to us - we were her mate. She shouldn’t be submitting to anyone else. I turned my gaze to Luke, my wolf pushing forward again.

Luke snorted, looking bored.

“Dean! Stop it! You’re being rude to our hosts,” Amara snapped, slapping me lightly on the arm. I blinked and looked down at her, frowning. She crossed her arms and frowned back up at me. Luke laughed. I started to turn back to him, but Amara slapped her hand on my chest before moving forward. I looked down at my chest where she had hit me, turned my attention to her, and then hurried to catch up to her side. I didn’t want her entering another pack’s land without me by her side.

Amara

I couldn’t believe Dean. He was being an absolute caveman. I was over his surly attitude; I wished he had just stayed at the castle. I didn’t know how much more I could take of him. I followed after Sam and Luke, passing over the barrier of Luke’s pack lands and felt a weird shimmer run through my body. I gasped, my eyes widening in surprise.

Sam and Luke turned back to look at me, both with expressions of confusion. Dean moved to my side instantly, gripping my forearm tightly while scanning the area around us. I blinked, meeting Sam’s eyes. She tilted her head with a small smile on her face. “What was that?” I asked, my voice sounding more breathy than I was happy about.

“That’s the Goddess reaching out to you. It’s time for you to get to know her,” Sam smiled and looked so excited. She gripped Luke’s hand and he looked down at her, his face softening as he gazed at her.

I blinked, surprised at that new development. I glanced at Dean to see if he had picked up on it, but he was still busy scanning the area as if he was expecting a threat to pop out at any second. I wrenched my hand away from his grip and put the surprise of Luke and Sam at the back of my mind. I had more important things to deal with at the moment.

“What do you mean she’s reaching out to me? Why me? I’m a human,” I rushed out, feeling the panic starting to rise. I flopped my mouth open and shut a few times, feeling completely like a fish, but not being able to do much about it.

“Amara, you’re touched by the Goddess. You’re not just a human - at least, not anymore,” Sam responded. I laughed - I couldn’t help it. The panic inside me had risen to an unmanageable level and what was coming out of Sam’s mouth pushed me to a place where I could either cry or laugh. I didn’t really get a choice, as the laugh burst out of me, but I leaned into it, laughing so hard that tears started rolling down my cheeks and I leaned over, holding my stomach and trying to catch my breath.

“Amara?” Dean asked, looking concerned. His voice was low and soothing, like he was approaching a scared animal. It made even more laughter bubble out of me. I couldn’t stop myself. It was like I was cursed or something - there was literally no off switch. I grabbed my stomach, holding it as the pain of laughing for too long made my abs constrict. I watched Sam step up in front of me, tilting her head. I laughed at the expression on her face.

She pulled her hand back and slapped me across my face.

I gasped, putting my hand on my face, staring at her. I felt frozen in shock. I saw movement in the corner of my eye and fell back as Dean barrelled toward Sam. Luke stepped in front of her, connecting with Dean in a loud thud that had me wincing. Dean roared, pushing Luke back and shifting into his wolf quickly. Luke responded in kind.

I gasped again, watching as the two of them went at it. Dean’s wolf snarled and lunged, snapping onto Luke’s shoulder. Luke snarled and snapped down on Dean’s ear. I scrambled up onto my feet and moved forward, intending to get between the two of them. Two hands gripped my arms and pulled them behind me, preventing me from moving.

Next thing I knew, there were wolves and men standing all around us, snarling and very angry. I gasped again, trying to tear myself out of whoever’s grip was currently holding me. I watched as Luke clamped his jaw on Dean’s shoulder and threw him several feet away. Dean slammed onto the ground with a yelp and remained there. I yanked my arms, trying to get out of whoever’s grip, feeling it lessen and I was able to pull away. I sprinted to Dean’s side, sliding onto the ground and raising my hands just above him, trying to figure out where he was hurt.

“Dean! Don’t do this to me, Dean,” I sobbed. I realized my face was streaked with tears. That’s when I felt a sharp cold feeling in my hands, almost so cold that it felt like it was burning. I blinked through my tears and could see a white light burning through my hands. A silent, full-body sob wracked through my body as I sent up a thanks to any Goddess who was looking down on us right now. I focused on Dean, seeing his wolf’s eyes blink as he started stirring. He started shifting back into my Dean, the wounds on his body starting to fade away.

I sobbed my way through his transformation, leaning back onto my heels as he finished, leaving him laying on his side, breathing heavily. I wiped away my tears and shakily stood up. I turned back to the men who were standing around us, noticing they were all staring at me in awe and suspicion. A few of them stepped toward me, looking like they were about to grab me.

“Nobody touches her!” Luke roared as he shifted back into his human form. I grimaced at the harsh, angry wounds that were seeping blood down his body. I shuddered and swallowed thickly. Jake threw a pair of sweats at Luke, who yanked them on as he strolled over to where I was standing. I wrapped my arms around my waist, staring up at him. He didn’t look pissed, but rather stern - determined. I didn’t know what was going to happen moving forward. I lowered my head and shuffled backward, my heel connecting with Dean. He gripped my heel and I shuddered again, this time because of the pleasure rolling through me.

Luke stopped in front of me, staring down at me. He was breathing heavily and his wounds were bleeding freely. I winced, the sight of his wounds calling to a part of me. I released a breath, raising my hands up to his waist. The wolves at his back started growling, but he raised a hand and silenced them immediately. I barely noticed, my hands back to glowing bright white and that weird cold burning feeling starting again. Luke’s wounds shrunk, his eyes set directly on me. I waited until he was completely healed before I dropped my hands and braved a quick look into his eyes.

He was looking down at me with a curious, but soft look. I raised my eyebrows and he gave me a smile. I smiled back and then my eyes rolled to the back of my head.

The world went black.
