Carm

Ideserve a gold medal for keeping my dick in my pants this past weekend.

As if Friday night wasn’t bad enough, on Saturday, we all hung out at the beach. If I was a factor in Bella’s decision-making when she bought her swimsuit, I commend her on a job well done. I sported a half chub the entire fucking day. The only time I didn’t was when I got into a competitive game of beach volleyball with Enzo and Dom.

Now it’s Sunday night and the Hamptons are behind us for the next five days as I gear up for my broker party at Bond Street tomorrow night.

After clicking on the Mets game, I toss the remote on the couch and grab my beer from the table next to me. My laptop is shut on the coffee table. I’d usually be working, but my mind is too preoccupied. The never-ending wheel of events from this weekend plays on a loop in my head.

Mistake number one. Feeling her body against mine.

Mistake number two. Taking her to the beach after drinking and memorizing the curves of her body.

Mistake number three. Seeing Bella in a swimsuit, because if ever there were a cock tease, that’s it.

At least I had the decency not to act on my want for her. How different is that from when I was first headed there? I was hellbent on getting her to sleep with me just to rid myself of my obsession, but the crystal ball is clear now—I’d fuck everything up for a lot of people I love if I act on my impulses.

My phone vibrates next to me. Needing any distraction I can get, I answer without looking at the number. “Hello?”

“Hey, Carm.”

Perfect. Nothing better to dampen my sexual fire than a conversation with my little sister. “Blanca, what’s up?”

“The fact that you jerks got a house in the Hamptons and no one told me. I might not have a dick, but I’m a Mancini too.”

Whoa. She’s pissed and I’m thankful she’s on the phone and not on my doorstep. Believe me, all three of us have been kneed in the nuts by Blanca on way too many occasions. The verdict is still out on if we’ll be able to father children.

“I thought Enzo was going to tell you.”

He lost the rock, paper, scissors on who had to give her the news.

“Yeah, he sent me an email just now. Conveniently he’s not answering his phone.”

“Because he’s screwing Annie probably.” I roll my eyes and relax into the couch.

“Ew… I don’t need to picture that in my head.”

Truth is, Blanca can’t afford to join us. I would’ve loved to foot the bill for her, but Blanca has a tendency not to look too kindly on her brothers’ gifts. She would’ve felt like she owed us. On top of that, she’s starting a new job and wouldn’t be able to get the time off work.

“I’m sorry, but you know how pricey the Hamptons are. We’re sharing with a bunch of people.” I lower the volume on the television after another run scores for the Mets.

“Why do I have to be the youngest? I always get left out. And on top of everything else, I broke up with Carter.”

“Are you upset about it?” Good riddance, I say. That guy wasn’t good enough for her.

“Yeah, no one likes a break-up. He’s nice and all, but I have to figure out what I’m going to do with the rest of my life.” The aggravation in her tone is clear. I wish I could guide her, but this is something she needs to do on her own.

“And he can’t be part of it because…?”

“Because he’s too wrapped up in being the next big thing down at his accounting firm. The man works non-stop. I get it. I mean, I have three brothers who put their social life on the back burner, but I’m not the kind of girl who will wait for him to pencil me into his calendar. I want the type of guy who says screw it to work because he can’t bear to be away from me another minute.”

Her words worm their way into my head, and I’m left wondering if I’ll ever meet a girl like that. One who makes me want to reduce my workload because I’d rather be with her than chase the next deal.

“You deserve the best,” I say, because she does.

“Yeah. Yeah. I’ve always found it funny that my three brothers think I should have a guy who puts me first, but they never put a woman first themselves.”
