“Take your time!” Annie says with a big smile.

I take my phone out of my bag, locate the closest drugstore, and make my way there. Within twenty minutes, I’m holding a bag that contains two early response pregnancy tests, a toothbrush, and toothpaste. I figured I might as well take care of this terrible taste in my mouth while I’m here.

I head to a nearby coffee shop and head straight to the back where the bathroom is. One of the employees gives me a look as I make my way to the back, but I mentally swear I’ll buy a muffin or something after I use their facilities.

Thankfully the bathroom is empty, so I go into the first stall, pull the test out of the bag, read the directions, then pull the second one out of the box. I pee on them both, set one on each of my thighs and wait.

And wait.

And wait.

It feels like forever until the clock on my phone changes over to what I’ve been waiting for. But I managed to control myself and didn’t look at the tests while I was waiting.

Promising myself I won’t be too upset if I’m not pregnant, I look at the test on my left thigh. The display reads: Pregnant 2-3 weeks. The air rushes from my lungs.

Then I look at the test on my right thigh. Pregnant 2-3 weeks.

My hand flies to my chest and tears fill my eyes.

We’re going to have another baby!

Joy fills my chest and my hand goes to my belly. I’m so full of hope and gratitude for this little life I’m growing inside me.

The door to the bathroom opens and I figure I’d better get myself together. Taking the two tests off my legs, I put on the caps and toss them in my purse, finish getting myself together, and step out to wash my hands and brush my teeth.

The entire time I do, I try to think of a special way to tell Carm about this because I won’t be able to keep it from him for long. He’s already picked up on the fact that something is up with me.

I just wonder how long I’ll be able to hold this news inside.
