He put his face in his hands and sighed. “I can’t do anything fucking right, Marcello. She hates me. I have all the money in the world. I can figure out any problem.” He lifted his head and had tears in his eyes. “But I can’t bring her brother back. It’s fucking killing me.”

“You did everything you could to save Tate.”

I heard the butler’s kitchen door open and heels tapped on the tiled floor.

“You could have told Tate to stay in the Marine Corps.” Olivia dropped our plates onto the table with a clang. “You could have refused to let him work for you. He’s dead, and it’s all your fault, Drake! I wish we never fucking met you. We would have better off on the streets.”

Before he could respond, she ran out of the room.

“Fuck.” Drake shot up from the chair, wiping his eyes. “Do you see what I’m talking about? She’s like family. But I can’t even breathe without her yelling.”

I pulled him into a hug because he looked like he needed one. Drake wrapped his arms around me and sobbed on my shoulder. We stayed that way until he stopped trembling.

“I’m sorry.” Drake stepped back, running his fingers through his dark hair. “I don’t want you to see me like this.”

“Don’t be sorry. I was a mess when I got home. If it weren’t for Alex, I would still feel like I’m losing my mind.” I patted his shoulder. “You and Liv need each other. It’s going to take time for her to see that.”

“She’s never going to forgive me.” He dabbed at his face with the Batman T-shirt hidden beneath his black suit. “Liv is only here because of the deal we made. I want to tell her she can go, but I’m afraid of what will happen.” He resumed his place at the table and put a cloth napkin on his lap. “At least while she’s living under my roof, I can keep an eye on her.”

I lifted the fork and sliced into the meat. “You’re making the right call.”

Drake nodded. “I hope so.”

“You have to avenge her brother’s death,” I said between bites of steak. “I know you’re resistant to using Lovelace to start a war. But it’s the only way our families and the Knights will ever be free of The Lucaya Group.”

He dropped the fork onto the plate and wiped his mouth with a napkin, throwing it onto the table. “We talked about this, Marcello.”

“You’ll be doing the world a service.” I held his gaze, maintaining a stern expression. “The Lucaya Group has to go.”

“I don’t see you offering to help,” he shot back with anger dripping from his tone. “If this goes wrong, it’s my ass on the line.”

“I will help you. So will the Knights. But we need you to lead us.”

Drake was the only person who could code and optimize Lovelace to eliminate The Lucaya Group. And until now, he didn’t have to proper motivation to use the software for evil.

Iwoke up from another nightmare in the middle of the night, only to find Alex missing. She was soundly sleeping beside me when I passed out.

And now, she was gone.

I got out of bed and checked every floor until I found her in the kitchen. She often ended up down here when she had a craving and didn’t want to wake one of us.

The soft light from the open refrigerator illuminated her baby bump as she drank straight from the milk carton. I laughed as I crossed the room.

“Hey, don’t judge me.”

I took the milk from her hand and pulled my beautiful wife into my arms. “How are you feeling?”

“Hungry.” She yawned, rubbing her eyes. “Tired. But mostly scared. It was hard enough delivering one baby, let alone two.”

“It’ll be okay, princess.” I ran my hand down her back to soothe her. “We’re prepared for the boys. You have nothing to fear.”

She stood on her tippy toes, and her lips crashed into mine. Slipping her tongue into my mouth, she tugged on the ends of my hair, deepening the kiss.

Our hot moment of passion ended when liquid wet my bare feet.

She peeled her lips from mine, eyes wide. “My water broke. But my C-section isn’t for a few more days.” She waved her hand in front of her face. “I’m not ready.”
