“I’m half wolf.”

This can’t be true, can it?

“The minute I met you at the show, I knew you were mine. You see, we only have one true mate, and you are that one for me.”

Yes, when I was still in school, I used to read a lot of romances, and some of those were about shifters, but never in a hundred years did I think it could ever be true.

“What does that mean?”

“It means that you are mine. It means that you are the calmness to my incessant restlessness.” He raises his hand, stroking my wet cheeks. “That you are the only woman that I will lay down my life for, that I will do anything for.”

“But you’re not human,” I whisper, still not believing that this is true.

“I’m just different.”

Well, that’s one way of putting it.

“Do you turn into a wolf?”

Please say no, please.

“Yes.”

“How does that work? How does no one know about you? Wait, is there more? Are there more of you?”

Blue sits up. Finally, I feel him moving back. The minute he’s off of me, I’m snapping up into a sitting position with my back against the headboard and my arms around my knees, staring at him.

“Yes, there are more of me. All my brothers that you met are shifters. People don’t know about us because of this exact reaction you are having.” He points to me.

Immediately, I feel bad over my response, but what does he expect? It’s not like people are confronted with shifters every day.

Blue hasn’t hurt me until now. Therefore, I doubt it that he will hurt me going forward. I just can’t get my mind around the fact that he’s an animal. “Do you have to be locked up when it’s a full moon?”

His eyes widen. “No. Even when I’m in my wolf form, I’m in control of my thoughts.” I see him frown and then he’s standing, his hands low on his waist as he looks at me. “I will never hurt you, no matter what form I am in.”

I nod but then freeze. One minute, he’s standing before me and the next he’s transforming into a wolf right before my very eyes.

I know I’m sitting here with my mouth open. My heart feels like it’s going to jump out of my chest when the wolf looks directly at me, and then jumps onto the bed, which has me squeaking in fright. He’s huge, nearly the whole length of the bed.

“Um, can you change back now?” I whisper, not trying to frighten him. I know he said he would never hurt me, but he looks feral enough to take a bite. He lowers his head and starts to sniff at my leg, then his tongue comes out and he licks my thigh. This has me gasping not just in surprise but also because I felt a tingle of pleasure. He takes a step closer and then flops down on the bed, laying his head on my lap.

Every muscle in my body is frozen in place as I look down at his beautiful eyes looking up at me. He closes them. I take in a deep breath but continue to sit as still as a statue with a wolf laying his head on me. I don’t know how long I sit like that, but I slowly raise my hand. My intention is to try to move his head, but when my hand touches his fur, I start to stroke it instead. He has the softest fur. I hear what sounds like a rumble from the wolf’s chest, but he doesn’t open his eyes.

Closing mine, I shake my head.

What am I doing sitting here stroking a wolf’s head?

No. He’s not just any wolf, but Blue. My mind is going around and around with everything that I found out today, things that I thought were all fiction. What is going to happen now?

BLUE 9

I don’t know where to go from here. I’m always the one that is trying to get away from all the women, but now, sitting here with the one woman that is mine and I want more than anything, I have no idea how to proceed. I changed back while Siena slept, and before she woke up in the morning I left. I needed time to think, and I think she needed time, too.

I left a note telling her that I would phone later, I also programmed my number into her phone so that she could contact me if she needed to. The anger racing through my body at the thought of how Siena looked yesterday is messing with my mind.

“I didn’t expect to see you today, Brother.”

I don’t look up from the beer I’m drinking. I should have known that I might run into one of them here. I should have gone somewhere else besides the hotel bar. As expected, Fang doesn’t take the hint and pulls out a chair, sitting down next to me. “So, want to tell me what is bugging you?”
