“It’s fine, we will give you an unlimited pass to come and see us anytime you want.”

At my statement, she whoops, a smile replacing her frown.

“I will push you back to your car.”

I see Siena’s look of surprise. Ever since meeting me, I get the impression that she has been analysing me. There is something going on here that I haven’t been able to figure out yet, but whatever it is, she’s mine, and I won’t let her out of my sight from now on. Siena will know soon who she belongs to.

SIENA 4

What the hell is happening? From the minute I saw him, I have been tongue tied. All the things I have been thinking about don’t fit in with the person I met. He’s being so caring and friendly with Denise. Nothing like the man I imagined. Something doesn’t seem right. Why do I have this uncontrollable attraction to him? I know he’s handsome, and his voice touches me in a way which I have no explanation, but that doesn’t explain why I want him so bad.

Walking next to Blue and Denise, I listen to them banter, something I never imagined with the picture I have of him in my head. My plans went out the window when I saw him. It’s not in my DNA, and no matter how much I would like to make him pay, I can’t for the life of me follow through with my plans. I want to make him pay, but I have come to the realization that it’s not in me to hurt someone, otherwise, I will be just like him.

Blue helps me settle Denise in the car. I think tonight she will sleep with a smile on her face. When the wheelchair is in the boot and I’m about to close it, I feel Blue's hand on my upper arm. Gasping in surprise, I snap around.

“Why are you so weary of me?”

“I… I’m not.” He raises his hand to my face, which takes me by surprise. “What are you doing?”

One minute he’s looking at me with intense eyes that make it feel like he’s looking deep into my soul, and the next, he’s lowering his head and taking my lips in a powerful kiss that causes me to stiffen. My arms come up to push him away, but as the kiss deepens, all thoughts leave my mind.

I don’t know how long he kisses me for, because I black out. An overwhelming feeling of belonging fills me. When he finally raises his head, I’m gasping breathlessly, passion coursing through my body.

“Wait for me, I’m going to go get my Harley, and then follow you, okay?” I’m too frozen to do anything more but nod. “Get into the car.” He places his hand on my back, guiding me toward the driver’s side as he closes the boot with his other hand. Opening the car door, he waits until I get in before he’s jogging towards the other side of the parking area.

What am I doing? Shaking my head, I start the car quickly, making my way towards the exit.

“Didn’t he say you need to wait?” I keep my eyes on the road, trying to get away from here as quickly as possible. “Did he kiss you?” Denise asks because I didn’t answer her other question, her voice very curious.

“He’s a player,” I whisper, not sure if I’m trying to convince her or myself because everything in me is saying that I need to turn around and go find him.You are a silly, silly woman. How could you possibly think that you would be able to play a player? After what he did to Lee Ann. How could I let him kiss me?

“I think they all seemed nice, didn’t you?” That is the problem. He did, and I don’t know what to think. Was it all a show? Is it possible for someone to be so cold in one way and so giving in another?

“Yes, they were great,” I whisper, my mind a jumble mess of thoughts. I need to put all my energy into helping Lee Ann get over her depression and find someone that deserves her. This idea was terrible. I don’t know how I thought I could make him pay for what he did to my sister.

Denise is chatting happily about tonight, but my mind is too preoccupied to listen. At least I don’t need to worry about ever seeing him again.

“Thank you so, so much, Siena. This was the best day I have ever had.”

I take her hand, squeezing it gently.

“My pleasure, you deserved it.” I place my hand back on the steering wheel as I park in front of Denise’s home. Turning towards Denise, I smile. “You have done so well. If you carry on the way you are going, you will be running around in no time.” Denise smiles as she throws her arms around my shoulders, hugging me tight.

“I know you are only supposed to be my nurse, but I love you.” I close my eyes, keeping the tears back. There is supposed to be a professional distance when treating a patient, but with Denise, it has always been different.

“I love you too, sweetheart,” I say as I lean back. “Now, let’s get you out of this car and into the house.” A few minutes later, I’m helping Denise into bed. She can do this on her own, but today she’s tired, and there is no reason to tire her out more. “I will see you tomorrow, now go to sleep,” I instruct before walking out the door.

“How was it, dear?” All I want to do is get home and think about all that happened today, but it looks like I’m not going to make it home as soon as I thought.

“Denise enjoyed herself. The band was great. I’m sure she will tell you all about it tomorrow.” Denise was lucky to get great foster parents, they genuinely care about her.

“She hasn’t spoken about anything else except going to the concert ever since we told her that she could go. Therefore, I’m expecting to hear about this for a long time to come.” Her foster mom suddenly steps forward to hug me close. “Thank you, Siena, for everything.”

Smiling at her, I step back. “It’s my pleasure. Denise is so hardworking that it would be difficult not to love her.” Taking her hand, I squeeze it gently before letting go again. “Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to get home.” After saying my goodbyes, I make my way home, not expecting to see Lee Ann and Taffy sitting on the couch, a smile on both of their faces when they see me. Even though Lee Ann’s still have a sadness to them, the smile is there, and for that I’m thankful.

“What have I missed?” Walking towards the two of them, I take a seat on the opposite couch, kicking my shoes off before I fold my legs underneath me.

“Taffy made the best dessert. We saved you some,” Lee Ann says, which is unexpected. Since her bout with depression, she would rather let anyone else speak except herself.
