FANG 4

Everything in me stills when I see Myst.

What the fuck is she doing here?

“Fang” the sound of her voice is like a trigger. My heart suddenly starts racing, my senses sharpen like when I’m in wolf form. Before I can try to understand what is happening to me, I see Myst start to crumble. Everything seems to move in slow motion. I see Hunter make a move towards Myst. King takes a step towards her too, but the wolf in me rebels at the thought of another man putting his hands on Myst.

I rush towards Myst, pulling her into my arms just a breath before her head hits the floor.

Hunter looks at me in surprise.

King tenses as he looks at me closely.

“Mine,” I growl, warning everyone to step back.

“Fuck,” Hunter grunts as he takes a step back, knowing how volatile we are when we first find our mates. How is this possible? How can Mystique be my mate when I never felt this before, when I was with her?

“Myst?” I call, but she doesn’t open her eyes, and then the smell of blood assaults me. Fuck, if it wasn’t for the bleach earlier having overwhelmed me, I would have smelled the blood before I even entered the clubhouse, but now it’s penetrating every fibre of my being.

Looking down her body, I analyse her hoodie, noticing a stain covering her side. Grabbing the bottom of her hoodie, I push it up until I see a bandage that barely covers the injury, blood seeping through the material. Deep claw marks rake down her side. It wasn’t exactly a fresh wound because it was obviously infected.

My rage amounts to explosive proportions. Did one of my brothers do this? My head snaps up towards King, my body tense as I growl deep in my throat. “What happened to her?” My voice is muffled by my rage, but King and Hunter hear me.

“She was already like that when she approached me at the gas station.” My head snaps to Hunter.

“Gas station?”

“Yeah, she was looking for you?” Hunter replies.

Looking down at Myst’s face resting against my chest, I frown. Her skin is very pale, and there are dark shadows under her eyes. Her beautiful long hair escapes from the ponytail she’s tried to hold it back with. She turned into a beautiful woman—a woman that I never thought I would see again—a woman that I never dreamed could be my mate.

“A wolf clawed her; I want to know who,” I state, looking at King once again. He nods, inclining his head towards the corridor.

“Why don’t you take her to your room? We will get Dakota to come see to her.”

I scowl. Dakota is Hunter’s woman, and usually treats simple injuries, but I’m not sure if she will be able to help Myst with this one.

“Myst isn’t lupin,” I state as I hold her tight against my chest as I start walking towards the back. “The claw marks won’t heal like they do with us.”

I hear King swear just as I turn towards my room.

“You are safe now. No one is going to hurt you again,” I promise softly.

A memory of Mystique when she was younger pops into my head. She was a quiet child that always tried to fit in, but because of her being born more human than lupin, she was never accepted fully into the pack, which I always found unfair.

“Fang?” Her whispered words as I place her on my bed have me sitting down next to her.

“Don’t move. Someone is coming to look at your injury.” Her eyes are trained on me, an expression of happiness in them. She raises her arm, placing her hand on my bicep.

“You look different.” Her voice is barely audible, but I hear every word.

When Myst knew me, I was a gullible idiot, believing that being part of my pack meant that no matter what, we stood by each other, and we would always have a say. But that wasn’t the case, and I was shunned for something which I was innocent of doing.

I took the blame for something Grimm did—something he wouldn’t confess to. “Life has a way of hardening us,” I reply as I place my hand over hers, seeing the difference between my much bigger hand over hers.

“Who injured you?” I’m going to kill whatever motherfucker thought he could hurt a woman just because she is weaker than him.

“Fang, I need to tell you…” Mystique starts to say just as Dakota walks in. I left the bedroom door open when I brought Myst here.
