I know that life will never be the same, Dawn has a way of wiggling herself into a person’s life and brightening everything up with the passion for life that she has. She is like an innocent infant that sees no harm and simply moves forward oblivious to the risks. I am prepared to guard her, protect her and care for her. I know that the person I need to protect her the most is from herself, but I will promise to try my best to be patient and loving.
Taking a deep breath to calm the anxiety building within me, I make my way towards the kitchen where I left Dawn. Entering I look around to see only Onyx washing dishes. “Where is Dawn?” I ask worried that she has completely disregarded what I said and has gone out.
Onyx turns, a wide smile on her face as she looks at me. “It’s about time Gunner, I was worried that you were never going to get to it.” I raise a brow, how the fuck did the news get around so quickly?
“Where is Dawn?” I ask again completely ignoring her quip
“Mystique took her to get ready.” Her statement has both my eyebrows rising in surprise, she knows, and she hasn’t fought against the idea?
“She knows?” I ask,
“Oh no, it’s your surprise but we needed to prepare for the party after, so we had to get her away from here.” Fuck, King is going all out again. I was hoping to creep away with Dawn after the ceremony, but it seems like King has other plans. “She should be in Mystiques r…” Onyx is cut short as Mystique and Dawn walk in.
Every thought leaves me as I see Dawn, her hair has been braided on the sides, curls flowing freely behind her. She is still wearing the same clothes, but Mystique has added eyeline to Dawns beautiful eyes. Her porcelain features are flawless therefore she doesn’t need anything else on as she is beautiful. I see her cheeks darken with colour as she lowers her eyes in embarrassment.
“You look beautiful.” I say not even realizing I was talking out loud until her eyes snap up to mine and a radiant smile adorns her features. Seems like my woman likes compliments, I need to remember that as I am not the flowery type.
“Where are we going?” she asks as she takes a step closer
“Wait and see,” I reply as I take her hand in mine and start to guide her out of the kitchen.
“At least tell me if I’m dressed okay for wherever we are going?” she asks pulling at my hand but instead of stopping and looking back I continue making our way towards the clearing where King and I agreed to hold the ceremony. Usually, we have the ceremony at night but since the last incident that we had we thought that it would be better if we have it now during the day.
“Are you taking me to that cottage again?” she asks
“You are a curious creature, aren’t you?” I mutter wanting to maintain the surprise but finding it hard with her constant questioning.
“Yes, I am, why do you have a problem with that?” I glance back at her question and see her lips pouting as she looks around.
“No, you can be as curious as you like but I am still not going to tell you.” I reply, “besides we are nearly there.” As we come through a body of trees, I see the other men standing in the far end. King must have warned them to all be present, they are already standing around a fire waiting for us. I hear Dawn’s intake of breath as she sees them.
“Oh boy!” she murmurs, it must be dawning on her the reason for their presence and why they are all here waiting for us. I hope that when the time comes Dawn confirms that she is happy to be my mate, because if she rejects our bonding because of what has happened before, I will lock both of us away in a room making love to her until she realizes that she wants to be with me.
The thought of making love to her has my body vibrating with passion. I have been in a constant state of arousal since the moment I met her. Kissing her before only made it worse, as my body screams for her touch, her presence and her closeness constantly.
“Gunner?” she whispers
“Yes” I reply to her silent question
“But you didn’t even want this.” I can hear the panic in her voice
“I have always wanted you,” I state stopping just before we reach the others and turning around to face her. “But because of my constant bouts of rage I decided that it would be safer for you without me.” I see the surprise on her face at my admission. “The truth is that no matter how much I have fought, I can’t stay away from you, stop thinking about you.”
“You like me?” she asks, her eyes wide as she looks up at me
“Flame, how can you even think that I did not want you?” I ask shaking my head in amusement.
“Well, let me tell you how I could think tha…” before she can finish her sentence which I can see will become and argument I lower my head and take her lips in a blistering kiss. At first, she stands in shock as I kiss her, but a few seconds later she is kissing me back like a woman possessed. Everything around me is forgotten as all I can think about is this woman now in my arms.
The feel of her body against mine is like a scorching flame igniting every vestige of torrid passion that I possess. “Keep that for later bro, come on let’s get this done!” I hear Dash call out
“Damn, this could take a while.” Hunter quips
I break the kiss, turning my head I glare at the men that are all standing looking at us not even pretending not to be watching. “Assholes.” I grunt showing them the finger I hear Dawn giggle and immediately the anger that had ignited in me at their interruption has disappeared. She has the power of quietening the fury that is a constant with my wolf.
“Shall we do this?” I ask hoping that she doesn’t decide that this isn’t what she wants.
“Are you sure this is what you want?” she asks, an unsure expression on her face. Lifting my hands, I cup her face looking deep into her eyes. “Flame this is all I want.” I whisper making sure that she can see that I mean what I say. The minute she nods her head in acquisition I am guiding her towards the others. I see the women approaching, big smiles on their face.
