“One minute you are talking like a normal person, then the next you are snapping at me.” I look at her in surprise.

“Normal person?” I ask, “what the hell does that mean?”

“Well, you can’t really say this whole experience has been normal, now, can you?” she says in a huff. “One minute you are arguing with my father about him handling me, the next you are saying I talk too much. Then you are following me inside the services to keep me safe. Now you are sitting there scowling like you would like to be anywhere but here.” I’m about to snap at her and confirm that I would like to be anywhere else but here but then catch myself before I make this worse than it already is. I want her to stay away from me, doesn’t mean I want her to hate me.

Sighing I squeeze my eyes shut for a second before opening them again, trying to have patience. I don’t know if it’s because she’s my mate, but my wolf is slightly calmer than he usually has been, which I am thankful for because I can’t imagine having to fight my rage at the same time as fighting this unquenchable lust that I have for Dawn.

“If you are expecting soft words from me, you have the wrong guy. I am here to take you home, make sure that you get there the same way as when I picked you up. That’s it!” her mouth opens in surprise at my harsh words, I see her eyes close slightly in anger. My woman has a temper on her, a temper that enhances her unique beauty. Her eyes are snapping with anger as she glares at me, her hands fisted on her lap.

“You are really rude; do you know that?” she snaps

“Why, because I’m not spitting out flowery words?” my question seems to fuel her anger even more as she leans slightly towards me, her essence floats all around me making my cock uncomfortable in my jeans. Fuck, I need to get home quickly or I’m not going to make this whole way without taking her.

This fight is harder than the fight with myself, her fiery temperament ignites every atom in my body. Her scent is like something I have always known before, a scent that calms my mind, my spirit. It’s a loving, soothing scent that I never thought to find again after my mothers. I want to slide my hand into her rioting curls and pull her closer to me, want to lower my head against her neck and just breath her in.

I wish I had found her at another time, wish I was the man I used to be and not this shell that is filled with rage. A man that can relax and be playful and happy, not this man I have turned into that doesn’t even know what being happy is anymore.

“Can’t you at least be civil?” she asks sarcastically, her voice snapping with anger.

“Let’s just say I’m not the Civil type.” I mutter

“No jokes! I’m sure anyone could have guessed that.”

“You have a sharp tongue Flame.” At my comment she huffs and turns her head away not saying anything else until we about ten minutes away from home.

“How much longer?” she asks still not looking at me. I want to lift my hand and place my index finger under her chin to turn her head so that I can see her angry eyes looking at me, but instead I fist my hand and reply in a gruff voice.

“We are nearly there.” She doesn’t say anything else instead continues looking out of the window completely ignoring me. A few minutes later we are turning into the Club and driving up to the front where I park the SUV. Fang parks the bike next to me, stretching his back as he gets off the bike. Dawn has already opened her door and is stepping out, clearly impatient to be away from me.

I know that’s what I wanted, but now that I am here, I want to take hold of her and leave to somewhere she can’t escape. I also open my door and step out, stopping suddenly when I hear the deafening silence.

“Something’s wrong!” Fang says as he walks past me.

“Flame!” I call rushing around the vehicle to get to her.

“Stop calling me that.” She mutters as she ignores me and starts making her way towards the entrance. I ignore any previous decisions I made; Dawn might be in danger. Reaching her I pick her up against my chest hearing her gasp of surprise, and then her body is tensing, and she is using her tiny hands to try and push me away.

“What do you think you are doing?” she screams, starting to also kick her legs.

“Stop it!” I warn, “something’s wrong” I don’t know if it’s the tone of my voice or the fact that I tighten my hold on her, but she suddenly quietens.

“What, are you serious?” she whispers looking around, her arms lifting around my neck as she holds on.

“Yes, it’s too quiet.” I reply, cautiously following Fang inside. Entering the bar area, I take a whiff of the room but there are no different scents that could raise any concerns. Then we hear footsteps coming from inside, by the tread it’s one of the women.

“You back,” Mystique calls as she walks into the bar area. Fang takes his mate into his arms pulling her close.

“Is everything okay here?” he asks still holding her close.

“Yes, but there has been another killing.” Mystique says lifting her head from Fangs chest, looking up at him I see the sadness in her expression. “She was found by Goliath,”

“Fuck!” I snap, “the cops are going to be all over him for this,” we have been under a microscope for months because of these killings. Whoever has been killing these women has a grudge against the Club, they have done everything to try and incriminate us. Now it looks like its Goliaths turn.

“Who was it?” Fang asks as he raises a hand to stroke Mystiques face lovingly.

“Gloria” Mystique reveals which has me tensing. Fuck, Gloria is known to all of us and was a friend to most of the women. She was the owner for the town’s hairdressers and at one stage very friendly with Hunter before he mated with Dakota. “Oh Dawn,” Mystique suddenly calls taking a step away from Fang.

“I’m so sorry, with everything that has been going on I didn’t even greet you.” Dawn has started to wiggle trying to get her feet on the ground, but now that I have her in my arms, I am reluctant to letting her go.
