“No, but—”

I lean to his ear, running my tongue over the shell. “Baby bat, when we move forward, I plan to take my time with you. I want to unwrap you like a birthday present, explore you with my lips and hands. I will leave no inch of your skin without affection. Don’t rush this, baby bat. I promise the pleasure I will give you is well worth the wait.”

“This. Is. So. Unfair.” Tanner drops his head to my shoulder, groaning. “Daddy, you can’t leave me like this.”

“You’ll be fine,” I say, barely withholding my amusement. “Think of it this way…the sooner you finish the case and come home to me, the sooner we can work through your schedule and the rules. Once we’re done, I might consider a reward for my boy.”

“Wait, come home to you?” He whips his head up so fast that his forehead nearly takes out my chin. “You’re going to stay here?”

“Well, how else will I handle your meal prep?”

“Oh, Daddy!” His arms wrap around me, hugging me tightly. “Thank you!”

Patting his cute butt, I tell him, “You don’t have to thank me, baby bat. This is what Daddy is here for. Now off you go. Get ready for work, and I’ll have lunch waiting for you when you’re done.”

Tanner shimmies down my body, and I bite back a moan when he encounters my erection. I’m not trying to hide it, but it needs to be ignored until later. Words then touch. It will do me no good to immediately break my rules with Tanner.

I’ve successfully distracted him from his imminent breakdown and reassured him I won’t be going anywhere. If this morning proves anything, Tanner is prepared to protect himself from heartbreak at all costs. Even if it means pushing me away when he doesn’t want to.

Meaning, I need to show him with more than words how Daddy is here to care for him in all ways, which means sheltering his heart too.

Watching as he rushes off to his bedroom, I blow out a breath and squeeze my impatient dick until my erection wilts under the pain. My boy is tempting me with every breath he takes, and I’m not sure I’ll be able to hold out much longer.

But first, a sack lunch and then gearing myself up to be the Daddy Tanner needs.

??????

Tanner’s dim smile returns to its beautiful, sunny place when I hand over the lunch bag. He traded me a spare key to his apartment in exchange for a peck on his cheek and a promise to be here when he returned.

Shortly after he departs, I help myself to his bathroom supplies, giving myself a quick wipe-down with a rag I find under the sink. After dressing in my clothes from the previous day, I seek out a notebook and pen.

Back in the kitchen, I navigate through his cupboards and drawers, taking notes as I go along. I make a shopping list of necessities and ingredients to meal prep for the upcoming week. I briefly consider the benefits of ordering a grocery delivery versus selecting fresh ingredients myself.

I prefer to do my own shopping, not to mention the fees for those delivery apps are sky high right now. Knowing one thing will decide for me, I locate my phone and shoot off a quick text to Tanner.

Me:Hi, baby bat. Make it to the office okay?

The screen immediately lights up with the little bubble indicating he’s typing a response.

Baby Bat:Yes, Daddy. I’ve already picked up the case file.

Me:Where are you headed?

Baby Bat:Two stops. One in Aurora proper, another in the hills. I may not be home until after six or so.

Me:Not a problem at all, sweetheart. Take your time and do what you need to do. Will you text me when you’re heading home?

Baby Bat:Sure, I can do that. Are you fine to stay? I feel bad leaving you there without me. You can go home if you need to. What about work?

My schedule with The Garden is free, and even if it wasn’t, I would have cashed in some PTO.

Me:Don’t worry about me, baby bat. I have plenty to do here. But I am going to run home to shower and get some fresh clothes. I also plan to go to the grocery store. Any special requests?

Baby Bat:No, just you when I get there;-)

Me:Be safe, baby bat. I’ll see you later.

Tucking my phone in my pocket, I do a quick check to make sure I have everything I need before locking up the apartment and heading to the parking lot. As soon as I reach the lobby, I remember I rode my bike here.
