I think on it for a second. Based on what Zak told me about Tommy aligning with Bonner, I doubt he knows his brother has been used as bait, nothing more than fodder to lure me into some convoluted little game.

“No, I doubt it, but let’s keep that nugget of information between us for now. You never know when it will come in handy.” We reach the door, and I remind B to get me the info on who owns this warehouse.

After our last place was hit, three times, we decided to move the shipment to an unknown location, one that has no association to us at all.

Several things about that are still fucking with my head. The rent of the warehouse was made in a false name, and the only people to know of its whereabouts or our connection to it were myself, Zak, Bowser and Rocky. Not even Axel knew about it, not that it matters because the traitorous cunt has been locked up in our cellar for days bleeding his betrayal all over the floor.

As I jump back in my car and head home, my mind turns to Roxanne’s revelation about who Eva Trent really is.

Laskin has a daughter.

One he knows fuck all about.

The possibilities of what I can do with that information has a spike of excitement trickling through my veins. But it’s halted a second later when I remember Roxanne stating she’s not to be harmed, and I’m suddenly wondering what’s so damn special about Eva that Roxanne would want to protect her.

I put my foot down now eager to get home and find out what Zak and Roxanne have managed to get from Axel if anything.

Pulling down the road to our house, I push the fob for the gates as I get closer. When I arrive, the gates have just clanged fully open, and I drive right in, pushing the fob to close the gates as I head for the garage.

Inside the house, I hear Zak talking in the office and head to the kitchen, grabbing a beer from the fridge. My phone pings with a message just as Zak walks in. I quickly open it and see it’s from Bowser with the name and address of the owner of the warehouse as requested.

“What happened at the warehouse?”

“Everything is gone. Not a surprise. They did leave us a nice little gift though.”

Zak grabs another beer from the fridge, knocking the cap off on the counter and passing it to me and taking the closed one I’m still holding.

“I’ll regret asking, but what was the gift.” He knocks the cap off his beer and takes a mouthful.

“Sammy Evans.” I pause for a couple of seconds before continuing, “Dismembered and packaged up in a crate.”

“Nice.” There’s a tiny spark of reverence in his eyes, but Zak doesn’t say anymore.

My brother’s mind is not his own when there’s a blade and a blank canvas for the taking. Despite the circumstances surrounding our allegiance to Theo Rogers, he was good to us in some ways. Unfortunately, that goodness came at a cost. A very high cost. He was a master at getting inside your mind and doing whatever it took to achieve his goals.

When Zak and I signed our lives away in exchange for another’s, he had all the leverage he needed to ensure we did anything he asked of us. The men we are today are a far cry from the two teen boys he enlisted into his family.

“Bowser is with the clean-up crew now. Thank fuck we kept some of it back or we’d have Marchant up our arse. Not that I really give a fuck. I’d like to shoot the cocky little shit, but we need him on side for now. How’d you go with Axel?” His face morphs into one of anger and bitterness.

“Well, he’s still alive. He spilled his guts, and it ain’t good, Mad. It was Axel that told Rogers where the shipments were going, and he also told him about our deal with Marchant.” He pauses, and I know I’m not going to like what’s coming next. “He told him we were bringing Roxy back into the fold.”

I launch the bottle across the room and beer sprays from the top before it hits the wall, exploding into a shower of glass.

“Son of a fucking bitch!” Red descends over me like a blanket of fog. My mind fills with images of how I’m going to cut that fucker open and make him pay in blood for his betrayal. Before I even know what I’m doing, I have Zak pinned to the wall, my face an inch from his. “Why the fuck is he still breathing, Zak? And you better have a fucking good answer because I’m ready to go to town on your arse for allowing him to take another breath.”

“Get your fucking hands off me,” he roars, breaking my grip on his t-shirt and shoving me away. “He’s still fucking breathing because Roxy would murder the both of us if we lay another finger on him.”

I let out an amused scoff. “Fuck that shit!” I barge Zak out of the way as I head for the stairs. “Roxy. Get your arse down here now,” I yell as I reach the bottom step. “Roxy!” When she doesn’t answer, I bolt up the stairs two at a time and throw her door open.

My mouth opens to unleash on her, but I’m stopped short when I realise the room is empty. My eyes do a quick scan and see her stuff is still here and all still in the bags they were bought in. The fact she hasn’t unpacked sends another wave of anger through me.

Zak steps up behind me just as my eyes drift to the window. Her room is at the front of the house and looks out over the driveway. It’s only now looking down that I notice something is missing.

“Where’s Roxy’s car?”

Footsteps sound behind me as Zak strides across the room, joining me at the window.

“Shit!” Zak exclaims, and we both rush from the room. As we hit the landing, Maria comes strolling towards us. “Maria, have you seen Roxy?”
