Dom and Luke’s dad was in the Savage Cobras with Ray, but not long before I got sent down, he was killed by a rival MC. I met Dom inside and I owe him my life after he stopped me from getting shanked by the leader of some gang who was in for murder.

When I got out, he made sure I was okay. Checked in on me and never asked for anything in return, other than to stay out of prison. I was lucky enough to have Archie and Maria, so staying out of trouble—well, most trouble—was easy.

“Can you stop at the store, please?” Kenz asks as we near Silverbell and breaking me from my thoughts.

“Sure,” I tell her.

“I’m not going to break, Ash, so you can stop looking at me like that. Am I hurt? Am I pissed off? Do I want to murder him? Absolutely to all of those, but I didn’t love Owen. If anything, all of this just makes me more determined to put an end to Titan Industries. It means they’ve been watching me all these years. I thought I was flying under the radar, but they’ve been walking alongside me the whole time. The only positive is that I never told Owen anything about what happened with my dad and Nolan, or Silverbell and my theories on Titan.”

“He ever ask you about where you’re from or your family?”

“Of course, but I gave him vague answers, never really telling him anything. Must have pissed him off no end.” She chuckles, then says, “You should have told me last night, Ash.”

I pull up outside the store, switching the engine off. “I know, and I would have but I got distracted.” I scan her up and down salaciously as I say the words. She tries to keep a dead serious face but fails miserably, her lips kicking up into the hint of a smile before full on laughing.

A minute later, I watch as she strides into the store, offering me the perfect view of her ass from here. Five minutes pass and I look up just as Kenz steps out of the store wearing a wide smile.

Our eyes meet, then something across the street catches her eye. Her smile drops, nostrils flaring, and she clenches her hand around the small bag she’s carrying.

“Kenz,” I call to her, but she ignores me and steps round the car to cross the street. When I turn to see what has captured her attention, I see Owen standing beside Aria, the two of them laughing.

“Shit! Kennedy, no,” I shout, as I scramble from the car. By the time I get out she’s already on the other side and heading straight for them.

Her voice carries to me as she begins yelling before she’s even reached them.

“You son of a fucking bitch! How could you?” She barges Aria to the side, who lets out a cry as she stumbles on her too high heels, then Kenz shoves at Owen, who looks shocked, but only for a minute as he then fake laughs at her outburst, looking around at the crowd.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he says, feigning ignorance, which is ridiculous given our own spat the other day witnessed by half the town and a cop.

“Bullshit!” Kenz snaps at him, then she turns her attention to Aria. “How long, huh? ‘Cause if you think he’s faithful, you’re in for quite the surprise. He fucks anything that moves, and he’s not fussy,” Kenzie spits, looking Aria up and down and turning her nose up.

I grab her round the waist, pulling her back as Owen steps in front of Aria, blocking Kenzie’s view of her.

“Think you should get her checked out. She’s obviously having some sort of break down,” Owen says, loud enough for everyone in the vicinity to hear. He’s discrediting Kenzie and any accusations she makes against him. Bastard!

“Watch your back, Owen,” I threaten, not giving a damn who hears me. My main focus is getting Kenzie out of here. She’s still throwing daggers at Owen and especially Aria as I put her in the car.

Dropping down into the driver’s seat, I start the engine, put it in gear and get the hell out of there.

“Bad idea, huh?” Kenz says quietly, the bag still firmly gripped in her one hand.

“Not the best, no,” I say with a sigh and rubbing my hand over my face.

Kenzie asks me to drop her at hers, but if she thinks I’m leaving her there, she’s very much mistaken. My plans become obvious when I park up and get out as she does then follow her inside while she continues to argue about it.

Her mom and Stu are in the kitchen as we enter, immediately halting any further discussion.

Maria gives Kenz a knowing smile to which she just rolls her eyes as she reaches into the fridge grabbing a soda and holding it up to me in offering. I give a nod and leaning over, hands it to me before taking out a second for herself.

“I was just telling your mom that now would be a good time for her to go visit your aunt in New York,” Stu says casually but behind Maria’s back he’s urging Kenz to agree.

“Yeah, I think that’s a great idea,” Kenz finally agrees, but it’s not entirely convincing. And I watch as Stu now rolls his eyes, lifting his hands and letting them drop in exasperation.

“It’s all very well but who will look after the coffee shop? I can’t rely on Stacey. I mean, she’s a great worker when she’s actually there, and…” Maria continues to reel off all the reasons she can’t possibly leave until Kenz pipes up, barely above a whisper the first time.

“I’ll help.” Maria stops talking instantly, looking to Kenz. “If you want to go, and I think you should, then I’ll look after Morning Kick.” She smiles, her words stronger this time, but only on the outside. I know inside she’ll have a kaleidoscope of butterflies going wild at the idea of stepping foot in there.

Maria and Stu share a look, Stu nodding.
