“Do I need to? Balls in your court, Betti Anne.”

Her face paled. Her mouth formed a large O. I could read her face as thoughts scrambled through her face. She licked her lips again, eyes landing on my patch.

“Show me your colors.”

Points. She knew the game. I turned around, moving my hair out of the way. It had come loose during the ride. While she got an eyeful, I twisted my hair up and put it in a warrior's knot. When I turned around Betti Anne’s expression was unreadable.

“You’re Chief’s son.”

It was a statement. I nodded in confirmation.

“I’ll need protection.”

“You have my word.”

“He’s in 112. I need to grab my bug out bag.”

“You can ride in the van with Dan. Don’t worry, he’ll be in the back and blindfolded.”

She nodded before flipping on the closed sign and heading out the back door of the office. I sent a text to Papa to blindfold and gag him. If he hadn’t already. Then stepped out the door. Blue and Triton were gathering evidence before cleaning the room. A dark blue van with the company’s logo on the side in deep pink. Two women in matching cleaning uniforms got out of the ‘Magnolia Maids’. The driver nodded in Blue’s direction and headed inside room 112.

Stormy

WHEN I BECAME AWARE, I realized two things. My hands and feet were bound, and I wasn’t alone.

“Why isn’t she awake?” Ty’s voice demanded.

I forced myself to keep my eyes and my breathing even.

“Dumbass kid put too much ketamine in her drinks.”

“Drinks?! He was only supposed to drug one of them. I want her awake. She needs to see and feel everything I’m going to do to her.”

“She’ll be awake in the next hour.”

“Fine, if she’s not, I’m taking it out on you. Dan was your responsibility.”

Just like Tyler to lay all the blame and responsibility on someone else’s shoulders. Nothing was ever his fault. I fought not to react when a hand touched my leg. Fingers ran over the scarring on my left leg above my boot. The urge to flinch, to change my breathing, to scream, was nearly overwhelming. Thoughts of getting back to Gambit in one piece were the only things that kept me still.

“She kept my marks, Sid. You said she made an appointment at the laser center to get rid of them.”

“She made and went to an appointment, Mr. Barnes. I was not inside the room to know if she kept them or not.”

Tyler snarled at him but didn’t say anything else. I heard a phone ringing. He answered it immediately and began swearing soon after. Tyler walked away so she couldn’t make out what he was saying, only that he sounded pissed.

“I’ll be back. Keep her drugged. I want my face to be the first thing she sees when she wakes up.”

“Mr. Barnes, that's not a good idea, it could kill her.”

“Make sure it doesn’t,” Ty snarled. “If she dies, you die.”
