Stormy
The next two days flewby. Gambit moved my office from the compound into his office at the clubhouse. He didn’t want me going outside the walls unless I have to. Gambit or Smoke and a prospect escorted me to visit Honu at the vet. Late Tuesday afternoon, the vet's office called and said we could take him home.
I already had a special menu planned and needed to shop. No way I could do the shopping and pick up Honu. And still have time to make dinner by seven. Gambit, Sentry, and Wizard left to take care of something. Club business. Which meant none of mine.
Cosmo was sitting in the office with me. He’s my near constant companion.
“Cosmo, do you think one of the prospects could go grocery shopping for me if I make a detailed list?”
“I’ll clear it with a brother to send Ito. He’s, our foodie.”
“Thank you. I’ll have the list made by the time he gets here. Oh, and Honu is ready to come home.”
“I’ll arrange it, Queenie. Do you need help with dinner?”
“All hands-on deck, if possible.”
“I’ll see what I can do. If Papa isn’t available, I know King is. Might take fifteen or twenty minutes.”
“Not a problem that gives me time to double check my recipe and measurements. Plus, I’ll add extra in case everyone is hungry.”
Cosmo laughed. “We’re a bunch of beasts. We’re always hungry.”
A few minutes after five, I slipped into the kitchen. Honu was fast asleep in Gambit’s suite. My eyes widened as I took in the crowd in front of me. It looked like we had all hands-on deck. All the prospects, the bunnies, Red, Brick and Outlaw.
Outlaw stepped up. “What are we making, Queenie?
“Coq au vin,” Ito blurted out. “Please tell me we are. I know those ingredients.”
I had to laugh. “Yes, we’re making Coq au vin. Julia Childs’ recipe. I thought we’d put it over white rice. We’re also having two kinds of cornbread and individual crawfish, shrimp and crab pot pies.”
“What, no dessert?” Brick said, jokingly.
“For dessert, I’m making whiskey bacon brownies and caramel apple sheet cake.”
