Hard to believe this is part of the legacy that Trinity and I started thirty years ago. Trinity and I were foster brothers. When I ran away at seventeen, I took Trinity with me. I couldn’t leave him in that hellhole. Together we founded the Baton Rouge chapter. Now my son was following in my footsteps.

I found Stormy hard at work behind her desk.

Stormy

“KNOCK, KNOCK.”

I jumped and a small screech escaped my lips.

“Oh sweetheart, I didn’t mean to scare you.”

My cheeks reddened. “I was concentrating. I’m sorry, Armand.”

“Don’t worry about it. Are you ready for our adventure?”

Tension left my body as I laughed.

“I’m ready,” I said, pulling my purse from my desk drawer. Armand told me to dress for comfort. We had a lot of walking to do. I had on my best pair of faded denims with a stylish rip in the knees, and my high tops. A short-sleeved turquoise top with a deep chocolate ribbon banded just under my breasts and flowed out slightly. It still had the tags on it at the secondhand store. Score! The boho style shoulder bag was another find. Used but like knew. Real leather. It smelled amazing.

I came around the desk and Armand offered me his arm. With a smile I took it and he guided me out a late model Escalade. It was deep mahogany with a metallic finish. He escorted me to the driver’s side, opening the door for me.

Armand waited until I’d settled in before closing my door and getting into the driver’s seat.

“Are you up for a drive? I’d like to take you to one of my favorite places to eat in Baton Rouge.”

“I’m up for the challenge. Fair warning I’ll be starving by the time we get there.”

“This place is up for the challenge.”

We spent the next hour and twenty minutes talking. Everything from music to movies to books, and of course food. Armand was a foodie and Trinity, his V.P., was a professional chef. The club recently purchased a building for Trinity’s own restaurant.

Armand pulled the SUV in a parking spot in the back of a one-story brick building. The sign said, ‘Elsie’s Plate and Pie’.

After helping me out of the SUV he opened the door for me. An amazing mix of spices and foods greeted me. We walked into a large open room with industrial ceilings and cement floors. A countertop ran the entire length of one wall while wooden tables and chairs took up the remaining space.

We were greeted by a petite blonde woman named Cindy.

“Just the two of you?”

“Yes.”

“Right this way.”

Armand put his hand on the small of my back, guiding me through the restaurant to our seats.

“Your server will be right with you.”

Cindy left us menus before she left.

“You’re going to need lots of calories and carbs today. Eat up.”

I laughed. Honestly, I was looking at the salads. Eating with the guys all the time, I’d gained five pounds. Last thing I need is five more pounds around my already soft middle.

“It looks amazing. What are you getting?”

“The meat pie. Want some appetizers?”

“Sure.”
