“Anywhere?” she asked softly.
Reid hesitated, searching the mischievous look in her eyes. He wondered what she had in mind. Curiosity got the better of him. “Anywhere.” He brushed his fingers over the trimmed hair between her legs, finding it wet. She trembled when he parted her plump folds. “Will you promise me you’ll stay here?”
“I don’t have much of a choice, do I?”
“We all have choices, Alexis. If you make the wrong choice I won’t be back.”
“What do you mean?”
“I told you, I’m working undercover. The people I’m dealing with don’t know my real identity. If they begin to question my actions and it leads to mistrust, they won’t have a reason to keep me around. Too much is at stake for them.”
“I’ll be here when you get back.”
Reid nodded. “Don’t make any phone calls. Don’t answer the phone. If I call you I’ll let it ring twice, hang up and call back. Got it?”
“Yes.”
“One other thing. When this thing breaks it will be all over the news. Don’t be shocked if you hear about Mike Dunstin’s demise. But trust me, Alexis, I’ll be back. Make yourself to home while I’m gone.”
Alexis walked Reid to the door. He turned back to her after opening it, and surprised her when he wrapped his hand around the back of her neck, and pulled her against him. She automatically raised her lips to his, expecting a soft goodbye kiss. But she should have known he would never be satisfied with something so simple. Their brief acquaintance had already revealed he was a passionate, dominant man.
