Chapter 6

Alexis

Three months later…

Alexis was working the late shift at her family's restaurant, an unusual occurrence for her. Her mom had called, panicked and stressed out, saying that three servers had called in, and on Saturday, their busiest night. Apparently there was a virus going around. She and Reid had had their own plans, but he'd understood when Alexis had explained the situation. It didn't hurt that he adored her mother.

In fact, he loved her whole family, and that included her parents, two sisters, and a brother, and they loved him. During their six months together, they'd met each other’s families at various family functions. There'd been Thanksgiving with hers, and Christmas with his. They'd had to fly to California for that. Alexis had been in awe of Reid's mother, who'd been an actress at one time. She'd given it up when she married a prominent heart surgeon and they'd started having children. Reid was the eldest of three brothers.

Six months, and their relationship was going strong. In spite of the fact that they’d moved so fast in the beginning, she and Reid were taking it slow, the way couples usually did. They'd spent time getting to know each other, keeping separate apartments, and spending the weekends at his house. The only thing they weren't taking slow was their active sex-life. Their chemistry was off the charts, and hadn't begun to wane. Alexis hoped that it never did. Just thinking about Reid and what he made her feel sent tingles of awareness down her spine.

The man was an insatiable beast in bed, and she loved every minute of it.

Realizing that she was standing at the podium with a silly smile on her face, she shook her head, pulling herself back to the present. Her eyes met the smiling, knowing look on her mom's beautiful face. "What?"

"Don't take that tone with me. The dreamy look on your face says it all, honey. You're head over heels in love." She didn't have to say with whom, they both knew the answer.

Alexis released a soft laugh, deciding not to humor her mom. "So, who booked the sex room?"

The private room that was tucked away in the back of the restaurant was really one that was reserved for special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, that kind of thing, and not an actual sex room. It had garnered that title because, more than once, sounds had drifted from behind the closed door that suggested that a lot more was going on inside than eating. The last event had been a rowdy bachelor's party complete with strippers, and her mother had had the whole room cleaned and sanitized afterwards.

Alexis's mom giggled. "I have no idea. Probably some old coot dining with a young chickie and hoping to get lucky." She started to walk away, saying over her shoulder, "I just hope they don't do anything on the chairs, I just had them cleaned."

Shocked, Alexis followed her mom's departing figure with growing amusement. Those remarks weren't typical of something her mom would say.

"Hey, sis, we've been busy tonight."

She glanced up to see her brother, Mark, walking toward her. "So then why are you out of the kitchen?" He was their executive chef, and very good at it. Self-taught, until the family had decided a better education and experience would be had at some fancy culinary school in Paris.

Mark chuckled. "Wait until I tell Chloe you don't trust her in the kitchen alone."

Chloe, their younger sister, wasn't alone, but Alexis knew what Mark meant. "Don't start trouble," she said. "That's not what I meant, and you know it."

He shrugged. "Needed a break. Just finished cooking up a special meal for the guests in the sex room. Your favorite, as a matter of fact."

Her eyes grew big. "Chicken Basquaise?" Her eyes rolled back in her head as she moaned. "Please tell me you made extra."

Mark shook his head, a sad expression on his face. "Sorry, sis. But Kelly made enough Mocha Dacquoise Cake so you could have a sliver." Kelly was their older sister, and their pastry chef.

"Kelly made my favorite dessert, too?" She groaned loudly. "Sounds like this is going to be a very special occasion."

He glanced down at his watch. "Well, I better get back, and you should probably head to the sex room and get their drink orders."

Alexis frowned. "They're here? They must have snuck in when I was in the restroom." She wondered why her mom hadn't mentioned it, since she'd been manning the entrance. "I'll head right over."

Any time someone booked the sex room, one of the family members personally handled the service, wanting to ensure that the money the clients forked out was money well spent. The sex room wasn't cheap, and it had the reputation of being the place to go for special occasions.

Alexis couldn't wait to see the couple who'd reserved it, because she was certain that it was a couple. Before opening the door, she turned to the full-length mirror on the wall to make sure that she was presentable. Her hair was pulled up in a messy bun, some of it falling in soft curls around her face and down her neck. Her white, georgette blouse was buttoned up to her neck, tucked into a navy pencil-style skirt. Red stilettos added inches to her height, making her legs look fucking sexy, as Reid would say. She smiled and turned toward the door, giving a soft knock.

"Come in."

Alexis opened the door, unsure what was going to meet her on the other side. The lights had been dimmed, giving the room a romantic ambiance. Fragrant candles--she gave a subtle sniff--of her favorite scent of pomegranate filled the room. The soft glow wasn't enough to allow her to see the lone figure sitting at the table, but she could tell by the large silhouette that it was a man. She could also see a bottle and two glasses on the table, and confusion caused her to hesitate. In that moment, something clicked, causing her to question what was going on.

The Chicken Basquaise.

The Mocha Dacquoise Cake.

The pomegranate scented candles.
